My 1988 Riva has a 3-prong 12V 40/45 headlight bulb. The low beams do not work but the high beams work. Instead of getting an incandescent bulb, is there an LED bulb available that would be brighter? LED's are cool to the touch, right?

Yes there are some led bulbs that are starting to come on the market in the last few months. The prices were atrocious for the very first ones but there are some that would be affordable for a small scooter. I don't think any in that price range are approved by DOT though. They have had landing lights for small aircraft for quite a few years now. A small scooter is not so likely to be able to outrun a marginal head light compared to a big bike. Unless you were blinding oncoming drivers I doubt if the cops would bother you. Ebay, some of the scooter parts people, and I think tvnacman here may have some. If you do get some, before you comitt to them try it out at night and compare it with what you have now. The riva doesn't have a lot of top speed so you will not need as bright a light as what a 250cc scooter is going to need so you will have more choices to deal with.

I get 65mph on my Riva with a tailwind. Searched for a bulb at 4 stores today. No luck. Gonna buy a non-halogen light on Ebay.
