recently picked up this 1926 De Laval 2 1/2hp engine which was made for the company by lauson. these were sold to run milking machines and cream separators but were used for just about everything. heres some pics, they were originally 16Mp and were taking forever to upload so i had the camera resize them to 640*480. this engine has had a head repair from freeze damage a long time ago. looks to be holding up well. heres a video: seems to run pretty good. missing a few original parts like the crank guard and gas tank. most you see are missing that though. the oiler isn't original, the right one is solid with just a hole to observe how many drops per minute you are getting. you would think it would be hard to start, but like the Cushman i got, it usually starts within 1-2 turns of the flywheel even in this single digit weather

they do hold a consistant speed when they have a load,,,,,when they dont then they skip,,,, they still waver around like 50-75 rpm's, which would mess with voltage and frequency output. we park near a guy with an Ottawa drag saw with an old tach attached to one crank end. it doesn't sound like it wavers much but its actually quite a bit. this ones maximum speed is 500 RPM so it would translate out to more RPMs at the gen because it would need to be geared up to run at either 1800 or 3600 RPM

Just checked ebay, wow them things cost a lot! A maytag may have been the straw that broke the camels back when it comes to my old bosses divorce 35 years ago. He bought one at a fair about a month before the coming divorce was made public! Could have been a girlfriend too, he bought one of them too!

Got another video of it after replacing the leaking oiler pipe and adding an elbow to the exhaust to keep soot off the side of the engines
