The blackbirds are flocking here, that's always a sign of spring. Next the golden finches will appear. We already have some early flowers coming out. Of course today we're supposed to get an ice storm. Here's a video of "Birds Gone Wild!" around this time of the year:

My wife threw some sunflower seeds out on the deck yesterday in addition to our feeders. At 1 point there were over 30 asst'd birds out there- junkoe, bluebirds, finches, sparrows, cardinals, nuthatches & titmice. Plus we've had 5 of the 7 different types of woodpeckers here at the lake coming every day.

It's suppose to get into the 30ºs starting Sunday and through the week so maybe we will see some. This and last winters were so cold even the Canada geese that usually stay around went south. I won't be able to get a scooter yet this summer but still want bicycling/hiking weather to come.

We have hundreds of geese on the lake now and folks say that the tundra swans are starting to come in. The best is that we have at least 2 bald eagle nests.

Maybe it's because I'm back in the city but I haven't seen any birds except the occasional hawk along the freeway. But they don't leave. Back in '01 I owned some land way up northern Wisconsin. One day toddling along a back road in my truck I hit a Bald Eagle. He must have been feeding in the ditch and when I can along he spooked and took off right in front of me. His butt hit center of my windshield and I gave him a push start. He kept flying low in front of me for about two miles with tall pines either sides of the road until we came to a clearing and he veered right, rose up, circled around looking back at me. He came back right at me glaring all the time. And disappeared. Man was the thing huge As was the stain on my windshield They are awesome close up.
