Hi, its been a long time. New season, new problems. So, I finally saved up and bought a new 150cc TaoTao. A Lancer to be exact. I bought it from a local warehouse type dealer (there's a showroom but they get their stock from a big warehouse somewhere). I have a six month warranty and paid an extra $20 to cover any labor for that period (although I've always done all repairs myself, I figured it was a safe bet. I mean you never know). They had to order my scooter because they didn't have any in stock. I let them go ahead and put it together, even thought as soon as I got home I tore it all apart and did it again myself. I also did a pretty good PDI. Replaced VAC and Fuel lines, fuel filter, new NGK plug, tore out the emissions stuff (I had both PAIR and vapor recovery on mine. Anybody every heard of them including both? Weird. I still need to take out the Carb and pull the cap off the fuel mixture screw. I've already had problems with idle, even before I tore out emissions. For now I've just adjusted the idle screw, but I know I need to adjust the idle the right way.(school has taken up most of my time, and April showers haven't helped) It been a week and has about 50km on it now. So today I went to start it and the battery was low. It was so low I could get it started so I used the kick start, I drove to the store went in shopped and came out, scooter started. Got the scooter home, turned it off, tried to restart and battery was dead again. So to my question, is this a bad battery? Where should I begin? I was gonna bring it in and put it on the tender but it started pouring rain again. I'm gonna go get it and charge it when the rain quits. I know the batteries are crap, in fact it's one of the only thing the warranty doesn't cover. I just want to make damn sure before I buy a new one. Thanks for reading my book. I'm excited for a new season!!

It's probably a bad battery, but first, look in the library here for the way to test your charging system just to make sure. If it passes those tests, then you need a new battery.

Find your solenoid and get a screwdriver and touch both terminals, if the battery is good it will spind your starter. If you get a groan or nada or just turns is very slow your battery is crapola. Alleyoop

It was the battery. I brought it in and put it on the tender all night. In the morning it fired right up. Still not sure what made it die out so quick. Oh well, I live like a mile from the motorcyclesuperstore so if it dies out all together I'll just walk down there and buy a new one.

Great, now heads up, charge the new battery overnight. Now if it gets low after you are riding around a few times that means one of two things: 1. The battery is not holding a charge or 2. Your R/R is not charging the battery which means you have a problem with your charging system. Test your charging system: Get yourself a Multi Meter they are cheap and at harbor freight you can get one for about 6 bucks. Then start your motor and hook up the multi meter to the battery and it shoud read about 12.5-12.7 volts while idling. THEN REV the motor up to around 3-4 k and it should read 13+ volts, if so your charging system is working fine. Alleyoop www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=multi+meter

I have a Harbor Freight right down the street. I got my multi meter for free with a coupon. I love Harbor Freight.
