Damn Alley with the amount of extras you threw in it sounds like that guy got the deal of the year. Next time you have a sale like that going on make sure to PM me. Before I even read your review I thought this might be the case. It seems like an old time snake oil solution. If a dual ramp variator worked well I'm sure the Chinese would have figured it out a long time ago. I was already looking at the Koso Variators so that's probably the direction I'll go in. The price is definitely right and I'll have some extra cash to spend on rollers or sliders. Thanks for keeping your reviews honest and not sucking up to the advertisers for freebies. You might have just saved me $60.

Anybody have any experience with this variator? I'm looking for a new variator for my 150cc Lancer. It's expensive, is it worth it?

That is exactly the information I needed, thank you very much. Is the information on your website correct? I'll email you when I'm ready for the harness. You take payment through paypal right? I'm sure I could solder the wires up on my own or even make the harness but like you said if I solder that will make future repairs a bitch and if I make a harness myself I'll end up spending way more money than I want. I'll take your advice on the stator and buy the one you suggested. I wouldn't mind buying from John at all but I have this thing (too long to explain) where I end up with Ebay GC's so I like to use them for scooter stuff.

Well you've definitely given a lot to think about. I was really hoping to not have to replace the whole harness since my scooter is less than three months old. On the other hand extra parts are always nice to have around. I'm pretty sure I can make the connections myself all I need is to know is what wire goes where. I'll probably buy it in stages. Stator first, then the R/R then the extra wire and connectors, and finally mock up and assembly. (oh and I'll need a flywheel puller too) I should have it all bought and on the way within two weeks. I just want to gather all the knowledge I can between now and assembly. Worst case scenario I end up with a few parts I'm not clever enough to install.

I've done some homework on this, read some articles, watched some videos, Thanks dmartin95. I still have some questions on this subject. Do I need to buy a special flywheel (an 11 pole flywheel) or can I just reuse the 8 pole I already have? I've heard it both ways, there is a difference and there isn't a difference. I'm also not clear on the wiring. Do I need to buy an 11 pole with certain color wires or does that matter? Is there some kind of wiring harness or adapter I can buy or do I need to make it myself? Which R/R do I need to buy? 7 pin, 5 pin, this confuses me the most. Does it depend on which 11 pole I buy? I've seen complete 11 pole kits with harness, stator, flywheel, and R/R. I'm sure this would work but I really don't want to have to put in a whole new harness if I don't have to, the same with the flywheel. Any help on this would be great. I've been looking at this stator- www.ebay.com/itm/Scooter-GY6-150cc-High-Quality-11-Pole-Magneto-Stator-/181766241866?hash=item2a521cbe4a&vxp=mtr

What would be the best upgrade for a stock 150cc Chinese scooter. Not for increasing performance more for reliability. I guess I can replace worn out or defective parts as they fail but I like working on my scooter so I'm looking to upgrade some stock parts with more reliable ones. I've already changed the vac and fuel hoses. I've also installed magnetic Prima drain plugs/bolts. I'm thinking a new carb might be next, they're relatively cheap and the stock ones aren't the best. I'm not looking for a huge performance increase just want to improve quality. Tires, battery, HID lights, is there anything I'm missing?

My kill switch works fine. I also have an open terminal behind my headlight cover but I'm pretty sure that's for an alarm. Kickstand kill switch sounds right since it's in the right area.

It is a two prong connector with a green wire and a black wire with a white stripe. Any ideas?

I've looked through the library. There are a lot of dead links in there or maybe I just have bad luck and only the ones I need are dead. Anyway, I have a 150cc TaoTao Lancer. My battery has been dieing, not every day, like once every week to 10 days. I hooked up the multimeter to the battery and it reads 12.5 to 12.7 or so. When I start it and rev it up I get no change. I've tried to check the R/R but I didn't know exactly what I was doing. I'm pretty sure I was getting 12.5 from the stator and like 13.5 or so out? Maybe, like I said I'm not completely sure. The test I saw on youtube the guy took the stator off and tested wire continuity the whole nine yards. I want to test everything but I dont want to take off the flywheel unless I have to. Can anybody hook me up with a step by step test I can do to narrow it down. If my stator is bad I'll have to change it but my scoot is brand new so I'm hoping it's something easier to change. (I don't have a flywheel puller). Thanks for your help guys and girls.

I've got a question, would the absence of the petcock explain why the kick-start won't start my scoot on a cold start? My cheap battery craps out sometimes and I've never been able to kick it alive except when it's already been warmed up. I'll look to see if I have the canister your talking about, maybe they just didn't hook it up. I've had all the body panels off, maybe I overlooked it? I can't think of any reason it wouldn't have any kind of fuel delivery deal going to the carb. It's definitely a mystery to what happened. You did give me a great idea though. Mine is under warranty also, I'm gonna be giving them a call Monday. At least I won't have to come out of pocket for one.
