That makes a lot of sense actually. It gets very humid in the Ohio Valley. It was in the 90's all week then the rain dropped the temperature pretty quickly. Well at least if it happens again I'll know what to do about it.

OK so Alleyoop you were right.I drained my carb then tried to restart a couple times. Took a little while and I got pissed off more than once. Eventually it started to kick over. Then it would stay running for a little while but only barely. If I gave it gas it would shut off. After 15 minutes or so of that it finally came back to life. Rain got into either the tank or the carb and had settled to the bottom which in this case would b the carb float bowl. Its running as we speak. I'm gonna idle it for a while then see if it fires back up. Thanks for all the help. Once again I get bailed out by my friendly fellow scooter drivers on scooterdoc.proboards. Seriously if it weren't for you guys i would have been stuck a long time ago. Thanks again.

So I tried just about everything except draining my fuel and replacing it. That's gonna be the next thing I do. I gotta borrow a gas can then get a ride to the gas station. I just can't see how water would get in there. Plus wouldn't my scooter have fired up first then went out when the gas hit the carb. I'll tell you I did get it to start for like two seconds yesterday when I took off the air box cover. I just hate not being mobile.

OK let me start off by saying that I know it was very irresponsible for me to leave my scooter outside and uncovered. I'm ashamed of myself. I have apologized numerous times to my poor scooter. That being said now I need to figure out what happened. My scooter (50cc QMB 139) turns over but will not fire up. It rained pretty hard last night so my first thought is that maybe its the spark plug. I pulled the plug and checked for a spark against the frame. I'm not really sure what's supposed to happen but it sparked a couple little sparks against the frame and then traveled up and gave me a small jolt. So does that mean its good? Screwed it back in and got the same thing. No luck. I removed it again and it started to rain again so a replacement will have to wait till tommorow. Ok so what else could this be? I need some help on this one. Fuel lines maybe? I'm just not sure how to diagnose this. Thanks in advance.

OK, so I noticed I was leaking a little gas from the fuel filter. No big deal. It was the crappy line the carb came with. I figured newer=better. I was wrong. Switched it back to the old line. Works fine now. No leaks. OK so here is the interesting part, while I had my seat off, I figured I would check the other lines. Well when I did I noticed that the line from the "PAAR" system or whatever it is had disconnected from the valve cover. Its the big line that connects understand the S line thing. Its a vacuum line but a big one. So I reconnected the thing. So here is my question. I have no idea how long the line has been disconnected like that. The scoot was running fine except the small backfire. Should I leave it off or keep it plugged in?

Well I finally got around to changing the carb today. It was really nice out today so I didn't have any excuse not to. I watched the video Alleyoop provided. It helped a great deal. It gave me the confidence I needed to dive in. I pulled off the fuel/vacuum lines and muscled the thing out. It all went back together pretty easily. I found attaching the lines and throttle cable was easier to do before trying to stuff it back into place. Might be different for others but that's what worked for me. I got it all put back together and kick started it back to life. I tried to use the electric start first but I didn't want to wear it out. I figured the bowl would need some time to fill up and it did. I had some problems at first. I couldn't get the idle right and it wasn't as responsive on take off. I almost came back in and asked for some help. I opened it back up gave it a look and realized I hadn't pushed the exhaust side all the way into the manifold. Messed around with the idle screw some and realized the cable didn't have enough slack. Adjusted the two bolts and BINGO!!! Scooter runs better than ever. No more backfire. Responds well and I believe its gotten a little quicker. I didn't mess with the fuel/air screw any. Is there any reason I should? The manual I have says that's how I should set my rpm's. I'm pretty sure the carb came pre adjusted tho. It was basically just plug and play. Came with a new fuel filter also. I only paid 26$ for it on amazon. If anybody made it through this long post and has any more advice I'd appreciate all I can get. Thanks for all the help.

Don't quote me but the lines I think you can get from like an auto zone. But the great stinky might no a better place and more direction on your question. Good luck though I am impressed on how many miles are on that how many times have you had to change the belt in it? Three. 3. Once when I bought it, the one it came with was garbage. The second time was when I was installing a new variator @ about 5,000 miles. The third and more recent time was about a month ago. There were some times in between when I used the crappy one it came with but that one finnaly broke. I pretty sure it had a lot to do with the variator I had to replace. Thank you for the video. Very helpful. Its been raining so I haven't been able to switch it out yet. Scooter is still doing the same stuff. No better, NO worse. That's a good think if you ask me.

You know, I often wondered that same thing. Are they miles or kilometers? I'm not sure. Never really tested it out. You would think I would know. I've asked people before and they said miles so I just excepted it and moved on. The speedometer is kilometers. So no I'm not completely sure. Still a lot of miles either way.
By the way, thanks to everyone. I do love my scooter. I take care of it. I went out today to go pick up my check and it fired right up. I was surprised because my battery isn't the best and I gotta kick it after it sits for a day or two. This is my daily driver. I ride almost Evey day. It only sits when its raining or too cold. If I didn't have it I would be riding the bus. I hate the bus. Two kids got stabbed to death on there just the other day. Plus its more expensive. I get awesome gas milage. I'm saving for a 150. I wanna buy it new. The 50cc was just supposed to be an intro scooter. I was gonna sell it and buy a 150. Not anymore. I'm keeping it. I know it too good to sell it to a crazy driving teenager. The would break her in a day. I'm gonna stick with Chinese too. I know the gy6 engine really well now and there are so many cheap parts out there. Anyway, I'm just ranting now. Thanks for looking and have a good summer.

The help I get on this forum never seizes to amaze me. I'm glad I found this one and not an inaccurate board full of tweakers. If anybody has any more useful information for me I'll be glad to have it. Thank you all. How about a video on how to install my new carb? That might help.
Oh yeah. I was thing about buying all new fuel and vacuum lines. Where can I get good ones and how much do I need? I was thinking about blocking out the ERG/Pair. Also other than the line what else would I need. Vacuum caps? T splitters? If I'm gonna do it I wanna do it right. Might as well replace the lines and all the components along the lines. I will look at my manuals of course but if there are parts I may need or other forgotten about pieces please let me know. The "ERG" thing is just a maybe. I would prolly need a push one way or the other.

Thank you. I'm planning to put my new carb on this week sometime. I'll let you guys know if it works. I can't adjust the valve screw on the one that's on there now. Its pretty bad. I hope this works. If not, try, try, again.

This is my scooter. I love scootin around town in it. It has very few problems. Nothing I cant fix myself really. It has a few body scratches but overall it is in good condition. The engine is stock. It has a new clutch, and variator assembly. Other than that new tires, belt, and regular oil changes. It run great. I hope the pictures upload correctly.

Yeah its stock. I just bought a new carb for it. Haven't put it on yet tho. Today is oil change day!!! Its so nice out 70° I bought my son a helmet (he's nine now so I figure he can ride on the back this summer) he loves it. He asked me if he could try to kick start it today. I let him try. He gave up after the third try. Hey thanks for your help by the way. If it wasn't for you guys I would be clueless at times.
