First time poster, thanks for your time and please bare with me, new at the scooters all together. Got a good deal on a 150cc Chinese scooter, but having lots of issues getting it to charge properly. It sat outside under the AZ sun and all the wires were cracking apart, so I went ahead and bought a replacement harness for it. That went on without much issue, also replaced the Battery, Rectifier, Stator (6pole) CDI box, and the coil and plug. It was charging alright and now its gotten weird. Ok, so, from a nicely charged battery, it starts fine for about 3-4 starts and then suddenly acts dead. I hooked up a volt meter and it read 12ish, went for a ride. Came back and checked again, still 12ish. After a few rides it acts dead, slow turning over and then nothing at all. I hooked the meter back up, still get 12ish v, but when I try to start it the volts drop to 6. If I charge it up it will be fine for a few more starts. Used to go for about 10-20 starts and is just getting worse. I just replaced the stator again, thinking I got a bad one from ebay and now Im thinking its the battery. Do you think thats should be my next move? I also read on another site that having your lights set up DC instead of AC can make it so the stator isnt charging the battery correctly. Im not sure if maybe I screwed that up when I replaced the wiring. The CDI seems to be the AC type, but my lights come on when I turn the key, the bike does not need to be running, so that makes me think they are set up as DC. If this is the problem, how do I even go about changing them back to AC? Thanks again for your ideas.

AC/DC is not your problem unless you swapped one for the other during your harness replacement.
Get your multimeter and do the following test.
1. What does the battery read with the bike NOT running? 2. Start up the bike, what does the battery read? 3. Rev the bike up between 3000 and 4000 rpm and what does the battery read?

Well the first problem I see is sticking putting in a 6 pole stator on it. 99 Percent of the 150s come with a 8 pole stator then some folks swap in a 11 pole stator. So with a 6 pole you are on the very edge of not much juice being produced for the accessories.
And yes if the lights come on when you turn on the key the lights are off the battery. Is there a off and on light switch on the right handgrip, if so turn them off before trying to start it? The headlights take a lot of juice. It could also be your Regulator/Rectifier verify that a wire from the R/R is connected to the POSITIVE POST of the battery that would be the wire to charge the battery. So when you rev it up check that wire and see if it is putting out volts at least 13+ when revved up. Alleyoop

Thanks for the suggestions. I replaced with a 6 pole because thats what was on the bike. Is there anything special I need to do to upgrade it or can I just purchase and install a new one? Ill check the RR tonight. And there is no off switch for the lights. Only high beam and low beam.

from a troubleshooting standpoint 12ish is not a voltage reading. I would like to add to guitarman's question what is the voltage reading when the battery is fully charged? What is the voltage when you connect the battery to the bike? Then when you turn the key? While cranking? When idling? Then when reved for 1 minute at 3000rpm?
Answering the above will help isolate the problem. Not answering will keep the guessing going. Help Us Help you!!!!!
