I use 20w50 in almost everything. Brand? I like Royal Purple. My bike runs cooler and smoother with it. And I don't care what Cyborg says, you're not supposed to bathe in the used oil. But it helps me maintain my girlish complection,,,,

Now that I think of it, it's time to change the oil in my bike. WalMart is out of my RP20w50, so I'll be using regular old Dino this time.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, I use 15w40 diesel oil in my scoot. as do I. Its made to take higher pressures and temps. Its almost as cheap as the regular oil and I can get it by the gallon at family farm and home which is a store kinda like TSC Great choice you two......I usually buy my Mobil Delvac 15w/40 at wallyworld, but I just picked up a gallon at NAPA for $11.99.....now I'm all set for the next 5 oil changes.

6 oil changes they take approx 750ml which leaves you approx 1/4 of oil left in each quart.

A question that came to mind, What if I mix 10w40 and 75w90 gear oil. Do I get 40w60? LOL Might actually save money that way, but what about the engine? Of COURSE the oil companies and the engine makers will swear it will kill you and 3 of your favorite neighbors, but really.... Pretty much, oil is oil. It just comes down to what they might have added to it. It might even regrow hair.

i'm sure it would change the weight,,,you'd have to figure out the volumes tho ,,,the only thing i see as being a problem with would be start up cold,,,i mean cold cold like 40* or below,,,you may have tight tolerances that the oil couldn't get to and end up with galling because of dry spots,,,the oil pump pressure on the gy6 leaves something to be desired,,,and i believe this is the cause of most of the engine failure with the gy6,,,inadequate oiling over time,,, i may be wrong,,,i use synthetic in my big bikes with 20% lucas oil stabilizer,,to up the viscosity because i run aircooled mills and the tolerances are bigger,,,my next change on my stella i'll do a warm up run,,,take it's temp and switch to synth then do the same run and check again,,,i'll probably see 75-80* lower temps like i did with the Dr when i did the test runs with it,,,it shifts much better also,,a marked difference,,,and it wasn't bad before,,,so with the stella being a shifter bike i'll know right away ,

Actually, the additives are different in engine oil and gear oil. Most engine oil has additives that help prevent acidic conditions, gear oil has some, but not the same as engine oil.

Pretty much, oil is oil. It just comes down to what they might have added to it. I'm sorry but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. What they add is significantly the point you need to pay attention to as well as what they may be taking out. For instance you do not want to use Energy saving or friction reduction oils in motorcycles with wet clutches. Gear oils have an EP component to protect against shear pressure. Some new Diesel engines designed to comply with EU 4 emission standards have a low SPash requirement to prevent plugging of the DPF. These oils are required in diesel powered Sprinter Vans and Mercedes vehicles. Plug up the DPF and your looking at $2k in repairs.

Mine calls for 20-50,,,but i do add 2-3 oz of lucas oil stabilizer,,no problems ,,, now that is a whole other argument. I occasionally use SeaFoam to keep the carb sweet and Stabil for engines that get little use or gas that sits for over 30 days. That can spark some heated exchanges.

I use 10w40 Castrol GTX and I always use Seafoam in my gas. I have a 5 gallon gas can and I first put in 4 1/2 oz's of Seafoam then go fill the gas can up, so my gas always has some Seafoam in it. I bought the Trike back in march of 2009 I have yet taken the carb off to clean it the only time the carb was off was for the BBK to change the Jets, all I ever do is adjust the fuel ratio mixture for cold and hot weather that is it. You can go into my garage 24/7 365 days out of the year, turn the key on and push the start button and your off. Alleyoop
