Just to see what would happen, I've been using dollar store 76 brand oil in both my scooters. My 50cc has been running on it for two years with over 3000 miles, and my 150cc is over 1600 miles, and I've been using it since PDI on each of then. Nothing for the record books, but the experiment will continue.
What is more important than brand/type of oil is the frequency of oil changes. My father taught me to always change your fluids more often than the manual says, and his vehicles lasted for decades without needing major repairs. I change my oil every 500 miles in the cold months, and every 300 miles in the heat of summer. It only takes 10 minutes, and using cheap oil it costs less than a cup of coffee, so why not?

I concur with all the above, esp the frequency of changing your oil. Remember you do not have a conventional oil filter, just a screen. Volkswagon used the same type system for years without issue. I will admit, I am not a big fan of synthetic oil except for use in transmissions.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, I use 15w40 diesel oil in my scoot. as do I. Its made to take higher pressures and temps. Its almost as cheap as the regular oil and I can get it by the gallon at family farm and home which is a store kinda like TSC

I buy Shell Rotella T by the gallon at walmart. I used to live near a fleet farm store, basically a department store-sized TSC/sporting goods/home depot type of place.

I use Mobil 4T 10w40 in all of my scooter engines except my scrappydog 161QMK... That gets Castrol Power RS Racing 4T - 10w50 After the break in period, I use nothing but synthetic specifically formulated for 4T operation.

Ive sold Allot of oil here in NC 55 drum min. I find it difficult to believe with these high end customers that there is no or little difference. Factory teams aren't pouring out there sponsors oil and using something else for the same reason above.

I use 20w50 in almost everything. Brand? I like Royal Purple. My bike runs cooler and smoother with it. And I don't care what Cyborg says, you're not supposed to bathe in the used oil.

As long as it meets the API specifications required by the scooter manufacturer.
