On my 150cc it's been running nice and fast so far this year. The other day I noticed a knocking sound. Not loud. But it was there when I was idling. Then today I noticed it again. It sounds like it's coming from the valve area. Then the scooter would stall at a red light. Are the valves loose? Thanks.

Normally the valves get tight and make no sound, if they are loose they will clatter pretty loud. But if it keeps on dieing coming to stops or low rpms it is usually the valves need to be adjusted. Set them both to .004 inchs. Alleyoop

Rev it up some to see how the belt climbs and if the noise goes away. Hard to tell where it is coming from, the variator or the motor. This is a 150cc right? what size rollers did you put in. Alleyoop

The noise isn't heard when I rev it. It is a 150cc. I just put new 13gram rollers in. The chain by the rockers seems loose. I read on another site it could be a bearing. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

Ok to pinpoint where the noise is coming from get a screwdriver and hold the metal part(point) of the screwdriver on the valve cover and by the cover by the variator the noise will be amplified through the screwdriver and you may even feel it. Alleyoop

Works every time. almost Back in the days I was working on a IH 1428. Farm tractor. 428 CI Diesel Knocking. Knock came from up top, Hmmm, was using Stethoscope. It had spun a rod bearing and the Piston was hitting the head, the sound of the piston hitting the head seemed to cancel out the rod knock. Just sayin.

Ok. I just used a long screw driver and listened to different parts of the motor. I can't pin point exactly where it's coming from. Could it be the new weights? Would a compression test rule anything out? Or diagnose anything further? I plan on tearing into it more tomorrow after work. Thanks.

Come on Bro, put the screwdriver wherever and then put your ear to the end on the handle wherever it's the loudest is it. But I would say it is your Variator because the rattling goes away when you rev it. So I would take the Variator off and make sure the plastic guides are all in place and not broke. Also when I asked what size rollers I meant the actual size not the gram weight 13. Size 16x13 18x20 19x14 etc;; Alleyoop

So the new weights are 18x14. The old ones are are 17.8x14. The sound is still there when I rev it. The plastic guides are good still. Going to tear into it more tonight. Thanks.
