One question and I think I won. I followed Alley's instructions in this post and I can see a big diff now when I give it the gas as we are going down the road. It picks up speed a lot faster then before. But I seemed to have acquired a new problem that I didn't have before. Now when it's cold or even if shut off for 10 minutes, it is a bear to keep running. I have to play with the throttle to get it running and keep playing with it for about 3 minutes or it will die. This started to happen after I adjusted the carb. After it warms up, it runs GREAT! Better than before. I ended up with the A/F screw 2 3/4 turns out. I'm scared to go less because I was told that it was running too lean by looking at the color of the exhaust. So, before I mess with it, I thought I would ask what would cause it not want to start? Back when it was 28 degrees, I just hit the starter and it would purr to life.

Try lowering the IDLE to around 1600 or so to close off the butterfly a little and less gas starting it. 1/4 turn clockwise is not going to make it run really lean but it might help the starting. Alleyoop

I turned the idle down and screwed the A/F screw in and hit the starter. It fired right up. But it was idling at 800 rpm's so I set it at 16 /-. it jumps around) Now this is strange, when it run for about 2 minutes, the idle jumped up to 1900. I think it should go the other way when warm. But hay. it's running..

Idling at 800?? You lowered the idle USING THE IDLE SPEED SCREW right? It only takes very little to lower or raise the idle using the IDLE SPEED SCREW(BE GENTLE WITH IT--HAHA). If the IDLE is bouncing up and down it is to LEAN needs a little more fuel so Turn the FUEL RATIO SCREW COUNTER CLOCKWISE try 1/8 turns only. Alleyoop

I don't know. I turned it from 2 1/2 out to 4 1/2 out using 1/8 turns and this is the best I can get. It could be a bad tach or maybe an air leak, I just don't know. It will read 1920 to 1970, then jump to 2300 then read 1400. And this is all at 2 7/8 turns out. I can't hear that big a diff in the sound of the motor. I hate to back the screw out to far. I lost a screw once doing that.

That jumping is the tach The motor did not change rpms when it did that. So make sure the wire is wrapped around the COIL wire good it may be loose on the coil wire.
Maybe that is what is confusing your adjustments the tach is bouncing not the actual motor rpms(HEHE). But it should idle nice around 1500-1800 rpms where ever the idle is the smoothest on the rpms. Alleyoop

Heck, it starts now, it runs great. The Wife is happy with her foot pegs and I fixed the darn handlebars so that they are straight. I had to re drill the hole on the front end shaft. There is no adjustment on it or for the handlebars. I'm happy with it.

FANTASTIC!! Remember once the carb is adjusted right ONLY adjustment needed after that is when the TEMP CHANGEs from HOT TO COLD(richen it up about 1/2 turn counter clockwise) or COLD TO HOT(lean it out about 1/2 turn Clockwise) and that should be it(IF YOU RIDE IN THE COLD MONTHS--IF YOU DON'T YOU DO NOT NEED TO ADJUST THE CARB JUST LEAVE THE SUMMER ADJUSTMENT). If anything starts to act up then it is something else NOT YOUR CARB, it is the VALVES are tight or something is cracked and has an AIR LEAK. I haven't touched my carb because I do not ride it in the winter so it is always set for summer weather. I just start it once a week and let it idle for about 15-20 minutes so it charges up the battery and I shut if off. Come summer I change the oil and it starts right up no problems. Alleyoop
