I have been all over this forum gathering information needed to get my scooter back in shape, I recently bought a 150cc Gorilla Motor Works with only 200 miles on it not running!
After basic trouble shooting I found that it is not getting spark and the start button will not get it to turn over, jumping the solenoid will. I went through the video
"The Ultimate GY6 Starter & Ignition Troubleshooting Tutorial "
This was very well done, When I first pulled the seat access off, I found the CDI out of its mount just flopping around, also right from the beginning my CDI has less wires going to it than the one used for the tutorial, when I check continuity from the black wire(lower right) to ground, the kill switch does nothing, the key shorts it to ground in the off position, can anyone shoot me a chart or something that I can use to check out the ignition system and try to narrow down why the start button wont work and try to get me some fire down here in Florida? I humbly ask this, hat in hand!

The wiring on your CDI tells me it is a DC CDI, so with KEY ON that black wire on the bottom of the 2 plug should have 12volts. Since it was flopping around PUSH IN all RED WIRE HOLDERS in to make sure they are making contact with the CDI's connectors.

QUESTION: When you turn the KEY ON does anything get voltage, I.E.. Fuel Gauge, Volt Meter if it has one ANY lighting etc.. IF NOTHING is getting juice check then FUSE coming off the BATTERY and don't just look at it check both sides of the fuse ONE coming from the battery and on the other side so that you know voltage is passing through the fuse. A very good thing to have for checking wires for voltage is a 12V LIGHT TESTER indispensable on these scoots I think and they are just a couple of bucks at your hardware store.

If FUSE is good then follow it up to the IGNITION and test the ignition to make sure 12volts is there. If 12 volts is there then when the KEY IS TURNED ON it makes contact with a black wire to pass the 12volts to it then from there everything gets 12volts.

I will start by Thanking You for taking the time to help me out.
Yes, when the key is on the fuel gauge, turn signals, driving light, no headlights(from what I remember about a Rocketa 150 I used to have the engine has to be running) And I am getting 12 volts on the black wire when the key is on, The kill switch does nothing, I feel like I have made a major break-thru just finding out that its DC and I am getting voltage!!! I will be doing the jig when It starts.
I am going to check the connections and put the CDI back in and see what happens, Any thought on the start button?
Anything that I can check to see why it wont turn over without bypassing it?

Great, First thing to check is if SQUEEZING THE BRAKE EITHER ONE your stop lights come on.

When you squeeze the brakes It sends voltage to the BRAKE LIGHTS and TO THE SOLENOID. Then when you push the start button it GROUNDS the SOLENOID and the circuit is completed and then the SOLENOID passes 12volts to the STARTER.

So you can check if squeezing the brakes the SOLENOID is getting voltage the Green/Yellow wire also when the start button is pushed continuity on the Red/Yellow(Ground wire).
IF YOU HEAR CLICKING WHEN YOU PUSH THE START BUTTON that usually indicates the SOLENOID IS BAD:

Both front and back brakes activate the light but nothing from the start button, It turns over when I touch the two terminals with a screwdriver.

The red and yellow wire and the green and yellow wire come straight out of the solenoid, no connector
Not that I think this is relevant, I just want you to get an idea of what kind of parts are on this scoot, I don't think these are as popular as some of the other scooters. I really liked the Rocketa and I really like this GMW,I will like it more when I get to ride it. Its so clean and has so few miles on it that I just feel that whatever the problem is, it cant be very involved. Lets hope I'm right!

SQUEEZE the brake and tape it squeezed and CHECK THE GREEN/YELLOW wire at the SOLENOID and see if it is getting voltage. Follow those two wires and see if it is PLUGGED INTO ANOTHER CONNECTOR.

I just got back from Harbor Freight where I picked up one of the test lights that you suggested.
The green and yellow wire gets power with the key on and the brake pulled and the two wires do lead to another connector!!!

GREAT!! So now DO THIS Stick the TESTER into the RED/YELLOW and the other end GROUND IT, TURN THE KEY TO ON and SQUEEZE THE BRAKE and see if the STARTER SPINS. What your doing sticking the TESTER into THE RED/YELLOW IS GROUNDING the Soleniod just like pushing the starter button.

1. If the SOLENOID is good it should spin the starter(AND THAT MEANS the PUSH BUTTON is NOT GROUNDING THE SOLENOID) so you can take the thing apart and see what is wrong, maybe the RED/YELLOW wire is disconnected.

2. If it still does NOT spin your starter then THE SOLENOID IS BAD.

It doesn't spin the starter, Looks like I am going to have to pick up a solenoid tomorrow, Is there anything else that you would recommend while I am there? Don't say jack up the gas cap and pull a new scooter under it! She's going to come around, with your help, and be a good scooter for me. Thank you for all your help, I don't think the solenoid has anything to do with no spark so I am probably not finished pestering you yet, Is there a way to check the CDI or coil so I can pick those up if they are bad. I am usually patient about things like this, but I want to hear her fire up and see what it can do!!! Anyways I have enjoyed the day Thank you!!

WEll No spark could be several things,
The Boot Cap itselft that is the part that snaps onto the plug. Next would be the COIL itself is bad, Then the CDI could be bad, Then last but not least is the PICK UP COIL that tells the CDI to release the Voltage to the COIL go send the voltage through the wire to the boot cap and to the plug.

You can test the PICK UP COIL by cranking the motor and it should read anywhere from 2.5 to .5 vac on the multi meter while cranking. THAT is the LEFT TOP wire on the 4 plug of the CDI. The other wire next to it is the OUTPUT Voltage to the COIL. You already know you are getting 12volts at the CDI so power to the CDI is there. I would get a COIL with it would not hurt because that part could have 2 bad things the boot cap itself and or the coil itself could be burned out.

I picked up a solenoid, coil and CDI today, I put the solenoid in first and you were correct! When I squeezed The brake and hit the button and she turned over. I changed the coil next, still no spark and the scooter dealer believe it or not, this is the owner, Didn't know that some CDI's are DC. so he sold me this super mega hyper make a 50cc do the 10 second mile CDI that is AC I believe. So she won't fire up today. I am going to take a ride to another shop in the morning and get the right one! Thank you for walking me through all those tests yesterday, It paid off because I knew that the solenoid was no good. I wanted to hear that motor rev up but tomorrow is another day, I will hopefully have taken it for it's first ride tomorrow

I'm sorry to keep pestering you Alleyoop, My DC CDI came in today and still no spark. I don't know why I have been in denial that the pick up coil can be bad but I think that is the problem. I didn't do your test on the upper left wire that goes to the pick up coil until tonight. It doesn't read anything while the engine is turning over, when I just touch the start button and let it go it makes the meter jump, but if I leave the button pushed and keep turning the motor over.....nothing. That is with the meter on AC the red lead to the connector and the black lead to ground. If nothing else I am learning about the ignition system of the GY6!!!!

Well now you see why you should test things first before ordering. If you test the things you may save yourself some money by not replacing good parts. So if you tested the LEFT wire on the 4 plug and got nothing cranking it then the pick up coil is shot.
So get a pick up coil and see if that does it for you.

Unless you have a high end multi meter, you probably won't get a reading from the pickup coil. If you have an analog meter, with the needle, you probably aren't going to read the pickup coil. It sends pulses, not a steady current. It may very well be bad, but I would not base it off of you not being able to get a reading.
