What's up guys? Got my latest $100 CL project. A 2011 BMS Palazzo in pretty decent shape. However was purchased from some crazy tweaker who did some crazy tinkering. My issue is when trying to start the scoot via the electric start the starter just spins. There is some compression when trying to kick start but it won't fire. For a laundry list of reasons I'm still sorting. But my main issue is the electric start. I pulled the starter and put my finger in the hole and I am able to spin the starter clutch freely in both directions. That can't be right can it? Before I split that side of the case I would appreciate some advice. I thank you in advance scooter brethren. A little background. Ran vin on scoot and found no previous title or reg history. Tweaker said MCO had been lost. Tweaker had inline fuse wire tied together with negative battery cable. Auto enricher on carb removed and plugged with tar. Scoot was full of oil but drain plug came off with finger strength. Tweaker said he had been starting it with an impact wrench. He had actually cut a hole in the fan to get at the nut on the flywheel. If this is true I suspect this is how he effed the starter clutch. ITS GONNA BE FUN BRINGING THIS ONE BACK!!!!!!!

Ooooops got ahead of myself. It appears it is the idler gear that is spinning freely. So could that mean some teeth are broken off the starter gear?

No I would not think teeth are missing I would suspect the Starter Clutch behind the Big Starter Gear is not grabbing the gear and is just spinning. So I suspect you need a new Starter Clutch. Alleyoop

Just wanted to check back in. You were right alleyoop. I traded out the starter clutch with one I had from a parts engine and she wanted to start but just wouldn't.
So I did a compression test with my trust harbor freight compression tester. I was only getting like 85 psi. I did the teaspoon of oil in the spark plug hole and she shot up to almost 100psi.
I will change rings tomorrow.
Thanks again #alleyoop.
