hi all, new here. I went and ordered a new taotao lancer 150 and it should be here in a few weeks. I'm pretty mechanical and have my m endorsement so I'm not worried about that. I've been riding motorcycles since I was 14 and since there is no one near me to help work on it I was just wondering what I should expect from the cvt. Are they maintenance heavy? how often should I be looking to replace parts if I'm just riding moderately around town and not on the bigger roads? I've always worked with wet clutches before and did not have an opportunity to test ride a scooter yet. I've had older mopeds before so tuning shouldn't be too big of an issue but I'd like to keep it going for trips around town after pdi and break in. thanks in advance.

qualitybelts are a big part of the equation,,,the consensus around the forums is either a gates or bando belts as the prime replacements,,,variator rollers in different weights let you tune how the power is delivered ,,,there's a ton of "hop up" parts for this area of the scoot

With proper weights for your weight and riding style, together with a Gates or Bando belt, should get you thousands of miles of carefree twist and go riding.

Ditto on the Above As my new Scoot was being shipped I had on the way a aftermarket Variator, Weights and a Gates Belt. I have Zero time on the OE Belt And Variator, the OE Belt is my Spare underneath the Seat. This stuff is inexpensive compared to M/X- Dirt bike Wet Clutch parts but there's Allot of 100% Genuine Fake Hot Rod Junk out there. A Benjamin for a Good Variator, Belt, Weights etc. Compared to Forged Basket, Billet Inner hub, Billet Pressuere Plate Inner and Outer Plates, PSi Springs a Easy $1,300-$1,500. Have Fun as you are about to enter the Mysteries World of Chinese Scooters.

Thanks all. As I said, this will be my first "dry" clutch so I really didn't know what to expect. City driving is considered to be severe duty driving and I fully anticipated to be replacing parts more often than some. At least now I can expect to be run over before my bike starts to self destruct. I look forward to China working out American prejudices more quickly than Honda and Suzuki did in the 60's.

prejudices, you know; Harley Davidson didn't make it so it's not a bike, Pabst didn't make it so it's not beer, Chef Boyardee didn't make it so it can't be spaghetti.

Well trashtruck1217, I understood what you were saying, and believe most others did also. I had an early seventies, Toyota Pickup that ended up junked because the frame rusted through, and in more than one place. Haven't bought a Toyota since then, and never will. Everything from Japan was known to be of very low quality in the fifties, and even beyond.
As far as Chinese goods getting over this same reputation, I think they are doing it now (at least in some areas)..... iphones, for example, and the Gates drive belt on my scoot, made in China, and has more than 6,000 miles on it.
Thing is, you can not expect a $600, or $700 scooter, to be equal in quality to a $3000 one. That being said, I am totally happy with my Chinese ride, it is not a Honda, Yamaha, or Vespa......but it does have 7,170 miles run without a breakdown, and literally runs better now, than ever.
