SO I put a new gates standard on the bike. She sounds funny and I smelt some rubber burning so I parked her before i popped another belt. Could this be the result of the stator bolt not being tightened enough? I know my roller weights are going flat. Im thinking of buying a new variator and clutch set but I need to get this thing running asap. What does it mean if the variator spins with resistance?(i haven't checked to see it it has resistance just recapping a comment)

I know where you heard that on itstheride, but you also need to understand the folks that are saying things are also running heavy contra springs in their clutch. Which IMO is not a good idea and here is why. A stronger Contra spring makes it harder to open the CLUTCH PULLEY so the belt drops down for TOP END speed. Now you need MORE RPMS(POWER) to get the belt to climb up the Variator because the Clutch Pulley due to the stronger Contra Spring is squeezing the Clutch plate closed . The stronger contra spring is also putting a lot of pressure on the belt and creating a lot of heat.
A contra spring may be good if you have a lot of hills and need the belt to drop down quickly to get more torque by requiring higher rpms.
If your area is pretty flat with of course some little ups and downs but mostly flat you are better off with the OEM Contra spring which they say are rated at around 700-800 while your performance springs are rated at 1000,1500 and 2000. That way your scoot will start to move when the RPMS reach around 2200-2500.
I have a KOSO VARIATOR running DR. Pulley Sliders and have over 6000 miles on the KOSO VARIATOR and BANDO BELT and I do not baby my HOTROD TRIKE. I do have the NCY Clutch and Bell with stock springs and my Trike starts to move at around 2200-2500 Depends if Clutch is cool or hot.
So Don't know what to tell you maybe you will be happy with HOCA but I also heard bad things about that one as well. I think it all depends on who made the part really, they sell a lot of fakes and you never know what your getting really. Alleyoop
