Difficult starting engine on Chinese 150cc and NOW: gas leak By fototaker (Read 1,722 times)

Hello y'all!! Hoping everyone is enjoying the summer. Here in San Francisco it's foggy as usual!

I have a 2013 Chinese scooter with various problems in the almost three I've had it. yeaaa, I know I know. Didn't research enough before purchase.

A week ago I noticed the scooter wouldn't start up immediately. It'd finally crank after about 40secs of continuous start attempts. I thought the gas filter might be clogged so tried to research that till yesterday when it finally did start hard and slow, I noticed a gas leak on the left side. sometimes it leaks a lot abt 2 drips per minute. other times it drips a few and then it stops. it doesn't matter if key is in ignition or not. right now it's dripping nonstop. i've checked all the clamps and all seem to be tight. it fell by itself a week ago while gassing up. it has never leaked from anywhere on two previous drops, or at the gas station. i do not overfill my tank though i used to. any ideas anyone? thanks in advance for any assistance. will stay at the desktop till i get a repsonse since i am NO mechanic and have NO idea what to look for now that i have the covers off.

Ok if it is leaking by the end of that hose not a big deal. That is your carbs DRAIN HOSE. Look on the end of it and there will be a screw inside that silver holder. Turn it clockwise to tighten it some DO NOT CRANK ON IT just tighten it up and see if the leaking stops. IF NOT then Disconnect it from where it is bolted down and BEND THE HOSE and zip tie it bent so it does not leak. If you want a new one you can order one they are not expensive OR you can just get a new piece of 3/16 hose and replace that one and bend it over zipped tied (YOU NEVER USE THAT TO DRAIN THE CARB ANYWAYS) so basically it is useless.

Alleyoop thanks so much. i'll go down now to see if i can find a screw. I did feel around at the end of it but didn't feel any screw. as many screws on this vibrating machine, if the screw isn't there, I wonder if it just vibrated itself off. I am missing screws all over the bike!! Thanks Again for all your help on previous occasions too!!

Alleyoop NO screw so am trying to tie off hose under the spring with a cable. If that doesn't work, will look for a tie or a twist tie.

Now this wouldn't cause the scoot to start bad would it? that's a separate problem right? Thanks again!

If no screw then gas is pouring out of it as you crank it over trying to start it and it may not fill up fast enough to cover the jets and in that case YES IT WOULD BE HARD TO START. If no screw I would take the Hose off take the spring off so you can kink the hose really good and tie up the kink and then put it back on the Carbs Drain connector.

Alleyoop thanks again. I was thinking just leaving it connected and tying it off. if it gets hard to do (lying on back of course on ground) i just might remove to kink it. thanks again!!!

Alleyoop Have it tied off though not very good as I cant get it tight enough around the flexing hose. looking for a tie that should do the trick. gas not leaking BUT now trying to start engine still wont start easily and battery is dying. i dont have a battery charger arrrrgggh!! reReading the above, so it doesn't matter if i kink and tie it off and NOT reconnect the hose to where it's leaking right now? Nothing needs to top off the hose inlet where this hose would normally go?

Could be something wrong with the float in the Carb...

Thanks kagetenshi  i know a week ago while at the gast station the scooter fell all by itself, but nothing leaked out. soon ag=fter this rough start began. now i have to deal with an almost dead battery and if i try to start it again, it'll probably die  arrrrgh  thanks again

If you pull the hose off the carb gas will drain out by the connector on the carb. So you need to kink that hose or actually better yet since the screw is gone from the end of the drain cut the hose right by where it connects to the silver piece pull the wiring OFF the hose then if you have a GOLF TEE stick that into the hose to plug the hose and or now since you wiring is on the hose it will be easy to bend and tie it up so it does not leak.

thanks again. now i have to tend with a dead battery!!! so as i understand it. i do NOT need to reconnect the hose back into the carb once i tie it off?

NO NO, IT HAS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CARB. Otherwise the drain on the carb will be open and gas will just pour out and it will DRAIN RIGHT ON TOP OF THE MOTOR NOT GOOD.

That is why that hose is there with the drain screw ON THE END OF THE HOSE. If you wanted to drain the gas from the carb you just unscrew the screw from the end of the hose and the gas will flow out.

Think about it WHAT IS THE POINT of kinking and or bending the hose to stop the flow of gas if it is not connected to anythings.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I haven't removed the hose or spring on the hose at all. i found a zip tie and will use that. i just need to figure out how to start engine with a dead battery. i've tried the kick start a few times just to test it and have never been able to start engine using the kick start option. even in europe/spain i've never seen anyone having luck using that kickstart. is it there method i can start a scoot with a dead battery without charging the battery again? sigh thanks again

Nope either kickstart or electric start, now if you have a car or someone has jumper cables you can jump the battery on your scoot just like jumping a cars dead battery with another car.

Just do not have the car running they produce to many amps for the little scooter batteries.

What you do is Put the RED JUMPER CABLE on the Cars Positive POST(RED) then put the other end onto the Positive Post on the SCOOT where the RED WIRE is connected. Now Connect the BLACK JUMPER CABLE to the CARS NEGATIVE POST(BLACK) then all you need to do is TOUCH the other end to the SCOOTS NEGATIVE BATTERY POST(BLACK) or clip it on. Then try to start the motor. Once it STARTS YOU TAKE THE NEGATIVE OFF FIRST then the RED so it does not SPARK. PUTTING IT ON YOU PUT ON THE RED POSITIVE FIRST THEN THE NEGATIVE so it does not SPARK.
