1st can anybody tell me model of this scooter. its a 2011 taotao 150cc I purchased a scooter cause I needed to get back and forth to work. its a 2011 taotao scooter with 3100 miles on it. it wasn't burning much gas so i wanted to check the gas level. i stuck a clean stick in the gas tank to measure it. it was about half full. now the scooter wont start. did i mess the gas up? it started once after about 20 cranks. but now wont start. i filled the tank up but it still wont start. can anybody tell me whats wrong with it and what i can do to fix it.

Put up a picture of your scoot and here is how to do it: scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/11566/easy-picture-postingSince you are not familiar with scoots it YOU MAY have accindentially hit the KILLSWITCH which is on the right hand grip it is the RED BUTTON usually on top. Make sure the switch is in the RUN POSITION and not in the OFF position. Sticking a stick in the gas tank is NOT going to cause it not to start UNLESS of course you hit the Float level arm and or knocked the float off the arm and it is now blocking the gas outlet on the bottom of the gas tank. To check if gas is flowing from the tank to the petcock and carb TAKE the FUEL HOSE off the carb and stick it in a cup and crank the motor over. If gas streams out into the cup while cranking the fuel delivery to the carb is good. Did you do anything else to the scoot. Alleyoop

Nope, we do not like to go to unknown links and pick up some virus USE the forum method of posting it is very easy. Or us photobucket or some other host. But why not just use the INSERT IMAGE at the bottom of your post and upload the picture very simple and easy 1,2,3. But the tao taos are all the same just different skins on them so nothing special about them. They are very common they come with the 157QMJ motor which is also very common and parts can be had from anywhere.
But forget about the picture how about the starting problem did you check the killswitch also some have a killswitch on the side stand, the side stand MUST BE UP. If you do not know if it has one on the sidestand look at the sidestand and see if you see a couple wires going to a little black piece on the sidestand.
If killswitch is on the run position then check the fuel flow like I mentioned. Alleyoop

when I try to start it, the kill switch is on. the ignition switch doesn't work. I have to kick start it. it was starting good until I stuck a stick in it and checked the gas level. it did start once after the stick thing, but it took like 30 tries. now it wont start at all

Most common no start problem comes from valves needing adjustment. But check for fuel and spark first. Does it have compression?

How many miles have you put on it and how many miles does it have. Have to ask WHY buy something when a major part like the ignition not working? How about the lights do any of the lights work does the brake lights come on when you squeeze the brakes(either brake) both should activate the brake lights. Was this scoot stolen or what?
I may be the valves need to be adjusted if it has some miles on it and you probably do not know when was the last time the valves were adjusted.
But here again YOU HAVE TO TEST SOME THINGS to try and find out which part is the CULPRIT. It is not magic that one can say OH YOUR THINGY IS BAD you have to check different things out to eliminate things that would cause it not to start.
So to help you I NEED ANSWERS to questions so I can diagnose what part of the system is causing your problem. You have the followintg systems Electrical, Fuel Delivery and Motor and within each one are different parts that may not be functioning right and it could be more than one thing not just one thing.

Hook up jumper cables from your scooter to your car. Do NOT start the car. Try to start the scooter. If it starts, you need a new battery.

I bought it for $300. it has 3100 miles on it. it is a 2011. i thought for that price all I needed was a ignition switch and it would be fine. the guy said somebody tried to steal it. he may have stolen it i dunno. the ignition switch looks like somebody tried to start it with a screwdriver and the seat lock is broke. somebody disconnected the electrical thing from the ignition, therefore no lights will come on. no brake lights, speedometer, nothing. I drove it home. put about 50 miles on it. it ran good until the stick thing. this bike, you can tell someone has been working on it.
I bought a ignition switch and seat lock on ebay for $19. i haven't installed it yet. I will try cleaning the carburetor. how can I check the spark plug?
thanks for all your help/ much appreciated
