I have a 2007 Lance GSR150. Due to a short I had a wiring harness melt down. While researching a replacement I came to the conclusion that my ignition is DC due to the voltage regulator which has a 6pin/6wire wide connector and the cdi which is 1 wire on the two pin and 3 wire on the four pin. If this is incorrect please educate me. What I've been trying to figure out is if its possible to convert my ignition over to AC by simply replacing the stator, regulator, cdi, and harness. The reason for this is due to the challenge in locating a DC wiring harness. Also it would seem that converting over to AC would make it easier to find parts and service. From what I've heard the DC ignition is an antiquated system that as replaced with the AC system by the manufacturers around 2008. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Here are pics of the wiring that has me convinced that it's DC

Sure looks like a DC system, 3 yellow wires from the stator going to the R/R and one power wire on the 2 plug of the CDI. But just trace the POWER wire on the 2 plug it should go to the IGNITION or the R/R and have 12volts with key on. If it is AC the Power WIre on the two plug will go to the STATOR. Alleyoop

are we in the thinking about doing stages or ready to do stage? Either way I can help from start to finish. Alleyoop Rich did this to Sues Pegasus, I can't find the post. John

Maybe this will help: Alleyoop Got the Puma running, it looks like it was another bad coil. John's R/R and stator seem to be working stellar pumping out 14.5v DC. I'm running an AC CDI off of John's stator. It has a magneto coil you can use for an AC CDI or run DC if you wish. Still, the wife is gun shy for this bike now and insists on Taiwanese. So I'll be selling the Puma to help pay for the new bike. Cyborg suggested cleaning out my basement and just keeping two bikes, I think I will heed his advice. The wire from the two plug splices together with the black wire from the regulator and then the single black wire runs up to the front of the wire harness and splits to run one side to the ignition connection the other to the connector that joins to the speedometer harness.

If that is the BOTTOM WIRE ON THE TWO PLUG then it is DC and if you TURN THE KEY ON it should have 12volts.
If that wire goes down to the STATOR then it is AC.

By two plug you mean the 2 pin plug on the cdi. Which on mine has only one wire in it. Is this correct. My regulator plug the three yellow wires coming from the stator.

Would I be better off to try to rewire the harness I have or should I continue to pursue trading out the DC system for AC. I have to replace the front and rear harnesses anyways due to the meltdown. With the DC system being phased out in favor of the AC by the manufacturer I'm under the impression that AC is possibly more dependable. Is this a fact or was the AC system just a cheaper option for them. The AC system is definitely easier to find parts for.
