so my scooter ( taotao50cc) has been having problems starting up ( needing to give it gas o and off till it turns on ), one day it seemed like it died, i charged the battery using a walmart $80 self detecting charger and it would work all the time and turn on. This time it did the same thing, and so i went on charging it. but when i put back the battery Wrong and start it up i noticed smoked by the headlights and kinda by the engine area.
what can i do ? whats gone wrong? should i try to charge the battery and give it a other go?
p.s the battery was HOTT

OUCH!! you connected the battery WRONG and it may have burnt some wires so first check for burnt wires where you saw the smoke Also check the FUSE on the thin RED WIRE that is connected to the battery.
To put in a battery the RED THICK WIRE and the THIN RED WIRE goes on the POSITIVE POST of the battery THEN the thick RED wire goes on ONE of the SOLENOID TERMINALS Then the BLACK WIRE ON THE NEGATIVE POST of the BATTERY goes to a GROUND SPOT ON THE FRAME.
Picture of the battery area and SOLENOID so I can see what you have connected.

I can't tell if the fuse is burned out, but go ahead and switch it with the spare fuse which is right next to it. And buy more fuses on ebay.

Bring the fuse to an auto parts store so you will know which one to get.

Check the wires WHERE YOU SAW SMOKE by the headlights and by where you saw smoke by the motor, it could of blown the CDI and or the Regulator/Rectifier. 1. If it blew the CDI the motor will NOT RUN. 2. If it blew the Regulator/Rectifier it will not charge your battery and or feed the headlights and possible other other lights. Alleyoop
