Hey,
To make a long story short I got into a argument the other day with a old school motorcycle/ scooter mechanic that stated basically scooters wont never be comparable to motorcycles due to the overall cheap nature of scooters, thats why scooter aftermarket and accessories are just very plain and not worth the hassle.
I rebuild fixer upper motorcycles and scooters for resale as a side job and have been doing pretty good lately, scooters have exploded in my area lately.
Ive got access to alot of different style scooters and sizes and tools to get the job done and im going to try and rebuild a scooter that will change his perspective, and hopefully learn some new things along the way.
First off this is the base im going to be working off of is the scooter in the title, a 2008 "Alien" longbo 150cc 4 stoke 1p57qmj scooter "Roketta Style" its a spare scooter I had laying around I didnt know what to do with so this seems like a good project for it, now by the end of this build it will be pretty custom but..... why not.
So what do you scooter gurus think would have to be done to get this scooter to a be a very dependable/cumfortable/fast/daily driveable machine.
Tools I have on hand to work with: Impacts, mig welder, air compressors, full socket sets standard/metric, alot of speciallty tools to many to list, but any and all suggestion/ comments welcome: good the bad, the very bad... tell me what ya think.

scooters are not built to compete with motorcycles. any machine can be made "better" if your wallet is big enough. dependability and longevity rests on maintenance. the biggest problem with Chinese scooters is that they can't be built in America for 60 cents a day.

Another member and i have been having a similar discussion about motorcycles and scooters,,,scooters are a different animal,,,most are made to be urban transport,,,lower top speed smaller engines no gearbox ,,,some companies are trying to bridge the gap between them with large engines raised floor frames larger and very fast,,,but to me these are just low framed motorcycles with automatic transmissions,,,and a very pricey to say the least,,,,which is "better"is pure conjecture,,it's what you want or need ,,,

What do you want performance wise? Do you want to smoke the wheel and pop wheelies, or do you want the highest top speed you can get? You can get close to 200cc with a BBK and a stroker crank, and final drive gears that will take you over 75mph without having to ride WOT.
That body style allows putting a motorcycle gas tank up front easily, and extending/lowering the rear thanks to the freed up space. Throw on some short ape hangers up front maybe, or fabricate sport bike style body panels, anything is possible.

Well performance I would like to achieve a strong 60-65mph and with the engine on these scooters bbk's won't work without changing alot but at the end I don't get what I was looking for I will fabricate a bbk to make it work, I'm starting from the ground up, I just bought a set of 13"rims and set of low pro kenda tires with the back tire being a bit bigger than the front and I made a bracket to hook the suspension to, to accommodate the needed space for the tire/rim, along with 2 different style carbs a 30mm round a 30mm flat with a jet kit assortment, and i just ordered alot more parts handle bars, rotors, brake calipers, brake lines, etc, trying to accomplish this with out looking gotti.

Well Obviously there not built to compete with motorcycles, its just this instance Im competing a scoot against a motorcycle to have a fun side project to do, NOT a big debate on is it worth it or there quality, or anything like that, its simple what suggestions would people have to make a scooter comparable to a motorcycle, more for fun that anything, a reason to do something different with a scooter.

L also hangout on a few motorcycle boards and on one, where I would least expect, we have had lengthy discussions about scooters. This is one of those macho types boards and I found it very interesting. Though they love there modified 1800cc monsters they still like there little city machines.

As I see it, the main limitation you're going to have is working with a "P" 157QMJ. That being said, I'm right there with ya, pal! Cycles are Cycles, and Scooters are Scooters, but that doesn't mean Scooters can't still be "stylish" or "cool"! I'm a firm believer in making a scooter "your own" in any way possible, especially fabricating your own "accessories" (but that's just my opinion)!

Exactly and if I cant get the performance out of the P 157qmj, scrappy dogg scooters sales a 200cc motor with a oil cooler already installed for like $500 ish dollars and my budget is going to be $1200, but im going to shoot scrapy a call and see what all comes with that motor, Cam and what size, and is the motor a bored out 157qmj? or what exactly, all else fails i'll buy a standard 157 qmj and then buy bbk , cams, taller gears, etc, but the only thing im stuck on is do I want to set it up like a cruiser, a bobber, a crotch rocket, a chopper? or a standard scooter?
