Hello Everyone!
I am new here and new to the scooter business. My wife and I needed a second mode of transportation to get from home to work and college. We browsed around and found a 150cc scooter that was lightly used for $900 + taxes/fees. The dealership sold it new to a guy in the spring and he sold it back to them about a month ago because it was getting too cold.
So here's what happened. On Monday, we went in and test drove it (it had a full tank of gas). Runs absolutely fine. I did aquick look at all the lights and buttons as well. Everything lit up and the horn went beep. We told the dealership that we would take it and that we needed to wait till Thursday (payday) to get the money. When we came in Thursday, He had it sitting out front for us ready to go. We signed the paperwork and it was ours! We asked him if we could leave it there until rush hour passed by (new to the whole scooter deal and was awful at leaning to turn it). He said sure and that was that. When we came back that evening to get it, I turned it on and immediately noticed that the gas level was below half a tank. That was odd because he said he would hold it for us until we came back in with payment. Then we noticed that the rear lights don't work. Both blinkers and the tail light are non responsive to me tuning them on. Because it was a used scooter, they sold it "As-is no warranty". Which that didn't bother me because it worked flawlessly on the test drive. This dealership is also a certified place to repair them. Convenient right?
So my question is, is there something they could have done to make the rear lights in-op so that they could get the repair ticket and charge me more? Something I could fix? I am no mechanic what so ever.
The scooter is a 2014 Lance PCH 150cc in Matte red/black.
If you need to know more, please ask! I looked around and didn't see this problem anywhere.
Thank you, Robert

When you went to pick it up and noticed the none working things DID YOU not question the Dealer? Or maybe when you checked it out they were not working then but you did not check it out well enough. The half tank gas is nothing a seller cannot depend on people saying I will come back and not show it to others IF THERE was no MONEY PUT DOWN TO HOLD IT. Also if they repair scooters there and they are selling this AS-IS it would raise a RED FLAG for me. I would expect at least a 30 day warranty from them on certain things. But first thing is to check the BULBS they may be burned out. Do the blinkers lights come on BUT NOT BLINK? or the switch does nothing. But If you want to work on it you will need at least a 12V Light tester to test the wires going to the blinkers and tail light. The wire carrying voltage to each tail light is BROWN and should have voltage WITH THE KEY ON. So with a 12v light tester you can test the probe the brown wire at the tail light with key on and see if your tester LIGHTS UP meaning voltage is getting to the bulb socket. Does your STOP LIGHTS COME on when squeezing the brake handle to start it with key on? Alleyoop COUPLE A BUCKS for one you can find them at an auto parts or hardware .

Alleyoop,
Thank you for the info! When we came back in the evening, it was past their hours of operation. I know for a fact that all 3 lights worked on the test drive. I checked myself. They do not light up at all now. Not when I squeeze the brake to start it, or when I turn the blinkers on. No lights in the rear whatsoever. I don't understand how 3 bulbs would all burn out in a matter of 3 days after they all worked. I will check with that 12v light tester.

Well if your electric start works when squeezing the brakes BUT NO LIGHTS WHATSOEVER in the rear THAT IS A GOOD SIGN. That means voltage is getting back there. So First thing is check the bulbs and or replace them. CHECK the GREEN GROUND WIREs going to the SOCKETS it may be they are loosing ground since everything is out back there.
With KEY ON test the BROWN WIRE at the light socket(that should have voltage for the running lights-tail lights). Test the GREEN and YELLOW wire at the socket when squeezing the brakes(that should have voltage for the stop lights). Alleyoop

Àlso check for a conector that is not plugged together not too far from the rear under the plastic. I guess a broken ground can do it too.

Ended up getting the problem fixed. Called the dealership and chewed the guy out and accused them of sabotage. The problem was the wiring harness to the back back lights had come completely unplugged. Strange how it worked for the test drive and not when we picked it up. Thanks for the help guys!
