Have to agree with you. There are great bikes to be found out there, and no real need to spend big bucks to own a real nice motorcycle. My newest BMW, is nearly 16 years old, doesn't have a scratch or scuff on it, and runs oh so sweet......I paid less for it, than the MSRP of a base model 150 Honda PCX with the destination charge included. The older one was $1500 more, had a couple of dents and a scrape from being dropped, and flaking chrome spoked wheels, but had only 5700 miles on it. Many of it's short comings have been corrected....it too runs super....now, I can't bring myself to part with either....even though I know I don't need two.
As far as riding with the $20,000 bike crowd.....they must be a few bricks shy of a full load.....so not the kind of folks I need to be around.
But then again.....they probably feel the same way about me.

nothing wrong with trying to save a buck,,,i and we do it all the time,,,i may buy new again but it will have to be one hell of a bike for one hell of a price,,,gently used is the way i go generally,,,now i did buy a "new" 2013 stella that was a leftover that i got a screaming deal on (slightly more than half price),,,but my other current steed in the stable was an ultra low mile bike i got for around a grand and put $800 and change into (performance parts) that i was going to change anyway,,,so for a tick under $2000 i got a real nice bike for like no money and with a little work,,is better than a similar bike at the dealer for over $9000,,,Rks got a crazy deal on the blue bike in his avatar,,(i'm still trying to get over that one),,,the deals are out there if you are patient have the dough waiting and are quick on the draw,,,,very satisfying in my book

I have no idea what my first bike cost me, it wasn't much as I was in highschool almost 60 years ago. It was a "james" 125CC tho might have been as much as 165cc. It was well worn out viliers engine, the cyc was tapered larger toward the bottom and rings only lasted weeks before they broke. It had a hand shift and 3 speeds. My father sent it to the scrap yard when I went into the navy. I had a wards scooter that I put the rod thru the crankcase before I bought the james. I believe the james could have been restored and today would have been worth a nice chunk of change.
In the area where I live in several years of looking I found one bike I would have now had I not drug my feet and not followed up when I first saw it on craigs list. My recomendations now are to keep the amount of money you intend to spend on that next ride in your sock drawer and when a bike comes up take it with you when you find that bike, if it is such a good deal the next guy will have bought it before you get back with the money! The bike I lost was was a naked goldwing for around $1200 that the owner had a financial crisis.
