Hello everyone.

Just an intro to tell you a little about myself. I am new to scoots. I briefly had a project Vespa back in the 80s that I got from my neighbor. It was around the time that Vespa kinda pulled out of the US. I had trouble getting parts and eventually scrapped the scooter. Been thinking about getting a scooter or trike ever since and decided to take the plunge for 2016. Ill be getting my endorsement over the holiday and making a purchase in early January.

I am a VW enthusiast so I am familiar with those engines (air cooled) and figure a Gy6 will be similar in spirit and I should be able to wrench on it with out much trouble.

I am pretty much set on getting a Chinese scooter since I will most likely be doing major mods and upgrades anyway and have been looking at the ruckus clones by Ice Bear and Bash? (Peace?).

Anyway, I will be lurking here for info and asking many questions

Welcome to the forum spiderjames. Most on here have chinese scooters and if Setup right will last as long as a brand scoot. My Ice Bear Trike in the picture I bought back in March of 2009 and is modded to the hilt and runs like a raped ape . You can go into my garage 24/7 365 days out of the year turn on the key and hit the start button and it cranks right up.

My first question I guess would be where to find info on the Gy6 50cc-150cc engines. I know there are different cases, "B" engine cases, long, short etc... Any good link for reference materials etc on the specs of these engines? Things like bore/stroke, bolt pattern differences, How to recognize the different variations, parts interchange, stuff like that?

Welcome to what I find to be an interesting and informative board. I will not be able to give advice because I haven't made my decision yet. If I win the lottery it could be a 650 Burgman but, I doubt that.
I like those VW Bugs as well. Had three and one Ghia.

Finished my rider course to day and got my cert. Off to the DMV tomorrow to get my endorsement!

I am new to the scooters spiderjames,Alleyoop,richardv,tvnacman,crwford,cyborg I am looking at purchasing a 2010 Magnum 300 cc Ice Bear with 800 miles on it . My question is should I purchase for 2,800.00 or would it be best to buy a new one for 5,000.00 I'm looking at the Zodiac 300cc. Do anyone know what the speed you can get on them.And also I was told when two people are riding that you need to get 300cc versus the 150. I would prefer to get the 150 Cyclone...Any answers Thank.....

I will riding around neighborhood street some of the street speed limits would be between 30 to 35 or some as high as 45 to 50 mph. I live in Memphis Tn

A 150 trike will do you even 2 up if you just use it to cruise around town your normal street limits 35-45 etcc. None of the ICE BEAR trikes are made for highway use if that is what you need.

Hobbles on here has a 150 trike and he and his wife use it two up all the time going into town and places.

Well the 150s are good for 50mph or a little better the 300s 60mph. Now I have to ask are you mechanically inclined reason for asking is it is hard to find a shop to work on any trike espcailly the trike part they know nothing about the trike part of the scooter. The rest of the scooter is like any TWO wheel scooter so no problem there. So you will be the mechanic if you cannot find someone to work on it.
