Anyone ever stretch their scooter by just grinding off the welds on the stock motor mount, spinning it towards the rear and rewelding it? Thinking about trying it on my ruckus clone for a mild stretch. Maybe 3 1/2-4 1/2 "

Haven't been on here for a bit but thought I might post a pic of the scooter after I got her on the road. Didn't have to do too much. Fixed the bent steering stem. Replaced the rear brake levers, mirrors and the turn signal lenses. That put her on the road. Changed out the handlebars and grips just for looks.

Should I attempt to straighten it or just replace it? Generally I don't attempt to straighten suspension parts on my VWs when they are bent. I just replace. Opinions?

OK. Picked up the Ice Bear today. Not 100% sure if I did good or not. I had trouble getting down to see it and didn't want to miss out(fear of loss ). I committed to the guy to buy it over the phone. Total cost: $413.23. It runs but it looks like it has been dumped on its side. Upon a visual inspection the frame looks straight but the front fork/triple tree is definitely bent and the rear brake lever is broken (knew that going in). I have no issue with doing the repairs. They are straight forward enough but are parts readily available? I see the levers on EBay but what about the triple tree?

Anybody ever done this? I love the vintage rat look. saw an old Lambretta carcass for sale. Certainly could overhaul the motor but was just curious if anybody has done this. Might not look right.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2014 ruckus clone with 2600miles for under $400. It is a tow yard impound. Runs and drives straight with some damage to the rear fender and the rear brake lever. Some surface rust on the chrome. I think it might be a good buy. I am not afraid to wrench on it to get it road worthy. Later if I like it I can do the stretch lower thing and still be way cheap. Opinions?

Thanks for the welcome Alleyoop.
My first question I guess would be where to find info on the Gy6 50cc-150cc engines. I know there are different cases, "B" engine cases, long, short etc... Any good link for reference materials etc on the specs of these engines? Things like bore/stroke, bolt pattern differences, How to recognize the different variations, parts interchange, stuff like that?

Hello everyone.
Just an intro to tell you a little about myself. I am new to scoots. I briefly had a project Vespa back in the 80s that I got from my neighbor. It was around the time that Vespa kinda pulled out of the US. I had trouble getting parts and eventually scrapped the scooter. Been thinking about getting a scooter or trike ever since and decided to take the plunge for 2016. Ill be getting my endorsement over the holiday and making a purchase in early January.
I am a VW enthusiast so I am familiar with those engines (air cooled) and figure a Gy6 will be similar in spirit and I should be able to wrench on it with out much trouble.
I am pretty much set on getting a Chinese scooter since I will most likely be doing major mods and upgrades anyway and have been looking at the ruckus clones by Ice Bear and Bash? (Peace?).
Anyway, I will be lurking here for info and asking many questions
