Ok, valves are set at .004. I still have the same issue.
Here's a note; After it dies, I still have spark and fuel, but even spraying starting fluid in the carb will not cause it to start.

Ok time to check compression on the motor. 1. Take the plug out 2. Stick your finger in the spark plug hole and hold it nice and snug. 3. Hold the throttle wide open 4. Crank it over as if trying to start it
Do you fell pressure on your finger when doing this? Alleyoop

Oh yes! In fact, I had the dipstick out and it blew oil across my shop.

Well do it again with the dipstick screwed in that was not a good test compression was lost due to the dipstick being out. The oil shooting out is normal the oil pump is right there so it will shoot out about 6 feet

Compression is strong enough that it blew my finger off the hole.

Great!! that is what I wanted to hear. So you have compression.
Now are your sure you know where all the hoses go? I don't know how savey you are so I have to ask. So right now it appears to me it is a Fuel delivery problem. Do you have the fuel ratio mixtue screw out from the CLOSED position at least 2 1/2 turns out?
When it starts is is idling high at around 2000 rpms? Is the rear wheel spinning when it starts?

It is a 4 wheeler. The vacuum line from the intake is going to the center port on the fuel pump. The hose from the tank goes to a port labeled in. The hose from the top of the carb tee's into the vacuum from the intake. The inlet hose is connected to a port labeled out, on the fuel pump. The fuel pump has another port marked vent. I plugged it off.
P.S. I did not check the carb out before installing it. I took it out of the box and hooked it up. Could the float be causing this problem? I didn't check the level. It runs long enough to empty the bowl, then dies, yet as soon as it dies, I can open the bowl drain and fuel runs out.

ALL HOSE CONNECTIONS SOUND GOOD.
WHAT SIZE CARB DID YOU GET?
Sounds like the carb needs a little adjustment and it is running off the ENRICHER when you first start it and once the ENRICHER shuts off the EXTRA fuel it dies.
So try turning the fuel ratio mixture screw clockwise until it stops then turn it out 2 1/2 turns. Also count the number of turns it took to close (CLOCKWISE) that will help tell what may be wrong.

I had it set at 2.5 turns out, as recommended.
