I tried to start her up, my QMJ157 , after this restore. I get nothing when I hit the start button. I knew to hold the brake in while trying to start it, the battery is at 12.3 volts, the switch was at least good when I took it off, I tried the "Kill" switch in both positions, my key cylinder only seems to have 3 positions and won't turn all of the way to where the torn up sticker reads "Ignition". unless, it is not turning all of the way ? The position in the pic below is as far as it turns to the right. I've tried it off and on the center stand (In case there is some safety switch against starting on it. Don't remember seeing one) Is there any reason that I shouldn't bypass the start switch to eliminate that the switch has gone bad? (Anticipating that it's what I don't know that could hurt me or, it ). There is a possibility that the connection at the replaced rectifier isn't solid (Oh, how I dread the thought of having to disassemble again to get to it). Where would you start ? Pardon the pun !

When you squeeze the BRAKES does you stop lights come on? Is the SOLENOID PLUGGED IN? Is the SOLENOID connected right. The thick reg wire on the battery goes to ONE terminal on the SOLENOID the other TERMINAL the black wire goes to your STARTER. When you turn the key to on does anything come on? Did you check the fuse coming off the positive post on the battery? On the White plug the GREEN AND YELLOW wire is voltage when you squeeze the brakes either brake should send voltage down that wire. The RED and YELLOW is the GROUND from the PUSH BUTTON to complete the ciruit. So if your stop lights do not come on when you squeeze the brakes then I would suspect the KEY is not getting 12volts from the battery and it could be your fuse is blown. But normally turning the key on the fuel gauge at least should work.

SO check if the fuse is good test it for 12 volts on B OTH SIDES going into the fuse from the battery and out to the IGNITION KEY. IF it tests good then you will need to check the ignition for 12 volts if 12 volts on the red wire then turn the key on and see if the BLACK WIRE has 12 bolts if not then the key is not making contact with the BLACK WIRE WHICH FEEDS THE WHOLE SYSTEM.

Thank you so much Alleyoop ! Yes, the brake lights DO come on when I squeeze the lever WITH the key turned to the right. Nothing without the key turned. I'll look into the rest, and report back .

Good that means you have voltage going to the key and the key is working. So that means the fuse is good. Make sure the kill switch is on the run position also some have a killswitchh on the sidestand make sure the side stand is up.
Make sure the SOLENOID is plugged into the other plug that has a green and yellow and a red and yellow. TURN the key on and TEST THE GREEN AND YELLOW WIRE for voltage WITH THE BRAKES SQUEEZED TAPE THE BRAKE.
One thing you can do is turn the key on and JUMP the SOLENOID and see if it wants to start. IF it fires at least ONCE then we will know the KILLSWICH IS NOT GROUNDING IT OUT.

Mine is not too easy to get to. No "Pull out bucket" so, I'll have to do some panel removal . I'll roll her back into the apartment, do the checks and get back asap. Thanks again Alleyoop , my scooter genius

Yes, I see that a lot. Abruptly abandoned threads. Okay, got her undressed again and YES, the solenoid is plugged into the green yellow/red yellow wired plug . At the start switch, the wires on mine are Green/white (As opposed to Green/Yellow , perhaps faded? ) and Red/yellow, and there is no voltage reading there, with THIS, what I believe to be the kill switch pushed to its left side, and sidestand UP (Although for info, mine doesn't appear to have a switch there), and the brake taped. There was no response when jumping the solenoid contacts, at all. It appears to be connected well and routed correctly.(I never disconnected it) Yes, the fuse is good. I have tested it. I checked for continuity between the wires that I had spliced to the new rectifier and they all seem to be making contact. (Hopefully, I did not wire anything incorrectly there but, you know the adage "PICS, or it didn't happen !" ? For me it was "PICS, or it won't happen well!" ) My neighbor told me today that the starter was about a year old. I followed the black wire to it and it appears to still be connected securely, I never have disconnected it.

Also, I had used little blob of dielectric grease on all of the contacts in the switches. I wonder if I used too much perhaps, causing a problem?
