Rochester, NY is the closest metropolitan area to me, and has had three motorcycle fatalities in the last five days. All three were young males, in there early 20's, and all three were caused by the riders themselves (not a 4 wheeler doing something stupid). All involved excessive speed. It took authorities over a half hour to find the one who ran into a culvert at the end of someones driveway, the bike exploded into flames, emergency workers found no one in the lawn near the accident scene, but later discovered that he had been thrown 150 some feet, into the woods.
Another one, at an expressway ramp, ran through a red light, struck a car that was turning on a green arrow, hit the guard rail, was thrown off of the bike, over the rail, onto the expressway below, to be run over by another car.
I don't know where I'm going with this......just a shame to loose your life at 20 or 22 years old, because you're in a hurry.

There has been reports of "motorcycle down" all over the LA area as well,,,,,what you said is exactly the reason in europe there's a tiered system for riders,,,small medium big and it takes a few years of no accidents or tickets to go up the ladder,,,it is a shame tho having young riders get killed

It's a shame that states don't require a certificate from an approved safe driving course with periodic renewals BEFORE a license can be issued or renewed. I believe instances like this could be greatly reduced. As a commercial driver the National Insurance Institute of America believes "There is no such thing as an accident, there is only operator error". I know others will feel differently but I believe any speed above 65mph isn't driving any more, it's aiming.

new and young riders on a 170 hp crotch rocket is insane. Around here with all the hills and curves I don't believe the kids should be in pickups either, all the one vehicle crashes with fatality's prove this time and time again.
Getting back to young kids with crotch rockets I don't know how they can afford them, the insurance payment is more than the loan payment! Stupid parents?

So, so sad... unfortunately, "Legal" has not a darned thing to do with "Wise". The trends of high speed white lining and street tricking/racing will probably soon cause legislation governing powerful bikes, in Cali at least. It is getting really scary on the highways here, the way and speeds that more and more riders are going.

I was out today on my wretchedly slow, 80 horse, 1983 750cc bike doing 70 mph with ease on the 65 mph road. Some of the current crop of Superbikes are at or near 200 ponies. Plus my boat anchor weighs in at 500 pounds against the 450 or less for some of these land rockets. I don't understand the thinking behind putting these new bikes in the hands of a rider fresh off a 250cc bike in an MSF class. I've heard all sorts of screaming of how Government shouldn't have a hand in any kind of tiered licensing but somehow there has to be a Restrictor Plate put on kids. A 20 year old with less than a year of riding has no business on a 1000cc Racebike replica.
Heck, I have no business on a bike like that. My best reflexes are years behind me.

I think some of them 1 liter bikes are just over 300lbs. Plus then theres the kid who just smoked a really big joint and climbs on one.
4-5 years ago was in talking to my ins agent. I saw the thing in the papers, but he had the inside info. 5 or 6 highschool kids in a pick up went to eat a bite before a football game they were to play in. Too many in the truck, too fast, and too much air under it! Driver died hurt the rest. Was insured by my agent. He also will not insure crotch rockets.

A good many motorcycle "accidents" could be avoided if the rider did not give the car driver that chance. Ride like you are invisible (to the cars"), don't just be dead right.
I got hit once going maybe 10mph on a narrow gravel road when a blond in a caddy late for work backed out of a drive behind bushes. If I had been going a little slower and on the wrong side of the road (opposite of the bushes) I might have avoided it. Bushes were on the right.
There are a lot of places and ways it is next to impossible to see a bike in traffic and if you take it for granted that they see you it may be your last ride.

The video with this story says it all. He was out in the Boonies going too fast. He probably came over a rise and didn't see the car ahead and rear ended it. They didn't say what kind of bike but any sport bike over 600cc can attain escape velocity in no time.
