Believe it or not none of that stuff going on with the Stella,,, it has halfway decent shocks stock,,, BUT it's still nothing like the Dr,,, kinda hard to beat a motocross suspension on the street,,,, you can ride over a 4x4 and barely feel it

Thought I'd stop in and update my posting....I have nearly recovered from the back surgery. I feel surgery was a complete success as the pain is now completely gone....although I have some numbness in my leg that will remain....I've completed many sessions of physical therapy and have regained a lot of strength in my left leg. Best of all....I have been able to get back on my new RPS 250 Hawk motorcycle! I put 50 miles on the other day and all is well. I would not have thought there would be such a difference in how a bike rides but this one is like riding on a cloud....The road tires I installed contribute no vibration so they were a great change since the bike will never be off-road. I do miss the automatic clutch that my scooter had but I would not want to go back to that type of ride quality so I can live with the manual clutch. I'm confident I will be able to ride this bike until I am ready to hang it up rather than because of the pain it caused while on the old scoot...

Please keep the updates coming. I believe that the Chinese motorcycles are stronger built than their scooters for some reason. I would like to see this confirmed.

Its hard to believe how many people would spend their hard earned money trying to improve the suspension on scooters and never give a dirt bike a look. Until my back got so bad I was thinking a few times about new shocks but clear thinking finally prevailed. There is hundreds of pages on the net about people who spent big bucks on shocks for the big name scooters and "thought" they saw improvement.
On the majesty I had the shocks would bottom going off a small curb to street level going very slow yet hitting an acorn sized rock on pavement transmitted a shock all the way up my back! The only fix for that was get rid of it.
There is a type of scooter from long ago that could still have a cvt and have decent suspension. I had one in 58 that was just that. A 125cc engine, cvt, and chain drive to a real swing arm. The engine was frame mounted and all that moved when you hit a bump was the back wheel and swing arm....maybe 15 lbs verses at least 250 lbs for that majesty. There quite a few brands of scooters that had chain drive in those days.

I spent the better part of 40 years finding out that

No kidding. I learned that lesson in spades on the recent bike moves. The 2009 scooter was a wallowing beast by comparison even to the 1983 Kawasaki. I wore a kidney belt on each ride but the only bike that I really needed it on was the scooter. All you see everywhere big Japanese scooter owners congregate is, "Does anyone know where I can get a backrest for my Burgy....Silver Wing....Xciting?"

The term touring scooter is some sort of a misnomer almost like a oxymoron. Touring and scooter should never appear in the same sentence. Scooters shine in town on short trips. In the 50's they placed ladies on them in advertising wearing dress's. I still love them but my back hurts thinking of a 30 min ride. Still like ladies too! They make things hurt too! Their advertising still is imprinted in my mind. Guys with suits and the ladies with full skirts and a few with tight skirts all riding a scooter.

Here's my thing in all of this. I have a Honda Rebel. It can be had now for $4200. Bullet proof, great riding and gets excellent mileage. The least expensive scooter in it's size category is almost $5000, the SYM Citicom. Do I think that a Citicom will outperform or outlast a Rebel? Not hardly. Yes, you have to shift a Rebel. Not an issue to me.
Go further and look at all the China motorcycles you can get for under $2000. I have a China bike in the 50cc Cub clone. It just flat works. The Hawk Enduro is available for $1400 shipped in many places. Not only do I think it will outlast a Citicom, I think a $6500 Vespa 300 would be sucking its exhaust in any contest. The Hawk will outlast the Espresso machine over time too.

The Chinese bikes are making great strides in their quality ,,and once the real world testing begins in earnest,, millions of miles in the field and on road and more importantly racing will show the weak points in a hurry,,I was impressed with the zongshen rx3 shakedown tour of China,,, if memory serves 8 bikes ,,,a few flats and one rear wheel bearing beginning to fail at the end,,, 3-4000 mile tour,,, and by the pics they weren't babying them either,, with lots of fire road / single track and a few river crossings thrown in for good measure ,,, I'm telling you if they had it in 450cc there'd be one in my garage as I type,,, I see two buzzing around here,,, mostly flying by me on the road,,, although I did get to check out the blue one sitting in a parking lot about three or four months ago,,, I gave it the long look,,, nice engine castings,, great welds,, just a nice clean bike
