Hello again, all.. I had a moped as a kid and envied the rich kid in the neighborhood who had a Honda scooter... His was much quieter than ours and so much smoother and more reliable, and he didn't have to mix his gas and oil... Well, here I am 35 years later, and I bought a scooter of my own.. It's a strange scooter because I can't find another one like it! It's a 2012 50cc Jonway Victoria 2-seater with trunk. It's huge as 50cc scooters go, as you'll see in this picture.. My problem is that information is very limited on this scooter.. I heard from someone that Jonway got in trouble for some emissions problems and no longer sells in the states... Is that true? With the limited info available about this scooter online, I have some questions-the weight limit says 154 lbs.. I'm 260, so what does that mean for the scooter? Am I going to ruin something or just be slower? Also, what two people did they think were going to be riding this thing that would only total 154 lbs? I already asked the question about de-restricting it, as it's limited at 28 mph.. I'm hoping it has something to do with the variator on this model because I wouldn't want my engine revving any faster than it's already revving, being air-cooled and all.. How does Jonway rate as far as Chinese scooters go? I've never heard of them or dabbled in scootery. Here is a pic.. What do you think? I plopped my daughter on it so you could get an idea of the size of this 50cc beast. It has 301 miles it. Yes, 301. Paid $900 July 20.

I'll be frank,,, for zippin around town great,, grocery getter fabulous,, hills gonna have a problem,, 2 up maybe not,,,the variator probably has a shim washer between the halves to keep it from going into high gear,,it needs to leave,,, engine size a little small for you,, I would get really good tires on it,,, Michelin/Pirelli/dunlops,,, you'll be fine,, you are on the large size and it is a large frame bike,, but it still can be a ton o fun,,, just don't push it or expect too much it is a 50 after all,,, basically a weed wacker with wheels,,, I've also seen pics of a small nylon block in the throttle housing where the twist grip is,, to keep from getting wide open throttle,,, welcome to the forum!!!

I appreciate the compliments and encouragement, for sure, but here in MA, in order to not have to register and insure it, it has to be 50cc.. If I bought a bigger scooter, I'd be in motorcycle territory and need a motorcycle endorsement on my license and have to license and insure it..
My transmission housing has IMS cast into it.. What does that mean? I'm certainly going to check for a spacer..

I have a nearly identicle Jonway, only the 150cc version........same scooter, different engine. The large size was one of the reasons I chose this style......didn't want to look like John Wayne sitting on a pony, when riding the scooter. Emissions stuff? ... Mine all disappeared before I started the engine for the first time. Weight limit? ..... I'm sure the 154 number is actually kilograms......which coverts to 339 lbs. My manual lists max load of 330 lbs. This style scoot was marketed under a bunch of names.....Lance Milan, BMS V9 EVO, Motorino Rivera, Roketa MC65Y, and probably many more. Most are 150's, and referred to as Milan style scoots. Jonway is by no means a top shelf brand......but mine has 10,200 miles on it, and is showing no signs of giving up. Other than the K&N air filter, carb main jet, and 14gr sliders in the variator, it is all factory original. No racing, or high performance anything has been added. This photo was taken the 28th of last month....when scooter hit the 10,000 mile mark. Still looks nearly new, and as I said, runs like a champ.....I have no complaints with the Jonway brand.

Wow!! I can't believe how identical!!! That's amazing.. . I spoke with a scooter dealer in Tampa today, and he told me that he thought Jonway was a step above all the cheap Chinese scooters, but your post didn't give me this feeling... I've actually posted this thing for sale with only 300 miles on it because I don't want to get stuck with a dud.. Do you think it's worth keeping, or not? I got mixed messages from your post.

BUT one caveat to consider,,, rks bless his pointy little head is a maintenance and service freak,, 2 steps away from certifiable and being in an institution,,, 😜 Just kidding,,,,But he does look after his bikes very well and service and maintenance is key to longevity with these scoots,,, anything with two wheels really

Welcome, kyleb ! What a CUTIE that is! I'd say that if you don't expect much more than an around town scoot, it's a keeper. You can find plenty of peeps that will be quick to hate on Chinese bikes but, taking good care of them seems to be key. Isn't just about anything that way, though? So, they're not all metal like some scooters, and they aren't status symbols. Some of us aren't bothered by that , at ALL. I wouldn't haul more than yourself mostly and maybe the other lil cutie you've posted there, once in a while, though. The info that rks posted will be invaluable to you for finding parts that work with your scoot. Get the MODEL number from a plate mounted somewhere on it for searching parts too. For example , mine is a YY150T-2 body style with a 157QMJ GY6 engine . Parts are cheap for our bikes, and available on Ebay, Amazon, individual scooter shops etc; We probably have the manual for yours in the forum. They tend to be generic at times but, invaluable I have a 2008 150cc Jonway with 6500 miles that runs great. I did about a 60% restoration to it but didn't have to rebuild the engine and I'm very happy with it. It's not the "Cute nostalgic style" like yours but a touring model . LOL! rks "didn't want to look like John Wayne sitting on a pony, when riding the scooter. "

Wow....the above statement sure surprized me....bought on the 20th....for sale on the 25th? Sorry I confused you. What I meant was, it will never compare to the quality of a Honda, Yamaha or the Taiwanese built machines. But, if given a comprehesive PDI, maintained properly, and ridden the way it should be, a Jonway can be a very dependable scooter. My 10,200 breakdown free miles are proof of that. I can't say whether or not you should keep it. I don't know why you bought it, how you intended to use it, where it will be ridden, what your needs are as far as speed, power and the like, or how mechanically inclined you are. No Chinese made scooter is a gas and go type of vehicle. Your scooter needs it's valves checked (I'd bet they need adjusting), the plastics need to come off (all of them), then you can get to the electrical connections, disconnect, dielectric grease, and reconnect each one.....remove every bolt/nut, place a drop or two of Blue Loctite on each and put back...make sure no wiring is rubbing on the frame, a bracket, or rough/sharp weld....and I would remove the emissions canisters along with the 6' of hose connected to them. Of course fluids should be changed also. Sound like too much to do? If so, then peddle it.....for if not PDI'd....in short order it will be a dud.
