With the ignition switch on, I'm getting power to the dash (fuel gauge, turn and horn) but not to the brake light from either lever. Consequently, no start switch. I can kick start it and the brake and running lights will begin to function. I think it's an intermittent short, I just can't locate it.

I found the problem shortly after I posted. The rear brake light switch was failing (intermittent contact). I found a replacement on-line for only a couple dollars. Figuring if one fails, the other can't be far behind, I ordered 2 left and 2 right. Considering that reliability of this part is critical, it's very cheaply made. I would have paid considerably more for a better-built part. Unless you have immediate access to a replacement, I suggest you get it before you need it!

Great you figured it out.
I like the way you think too.
