I am resurecting a 2005 Roketa 250cc (linhai 257cc clone motor) water cooled scooter. In replacing fluids no coolant flow so I removed the water pump front half to see the impeller is spinning freely and not on the shaft - so I ordered new pump.
When removing the inner half of the water pump all of the crankcase oil drained though a whole in what appears to be a bearing on the shaft. I previously had motor running - no mixing of oil and water anywhere. Is it normal for oil to drain when water pump is completely removed? Am i safe replacing WP and then refilling oil and cooling system. Not sure if what i am experiencing is normal or not.
TIA
John

If the coolant stream is not separated from oil supply by any kind of seal what the heck keeps things from mixing ?
