I have been riding scooters for several years. I am good at troubleshooting and repair, or at least replacing parts. I am not an expert but I am not a novice either. Here is my problem..... I took delivery of a brand new TaoTao Evo 50. It will not start. I have checked for spark, gas, compression, valve lash and loose connections. All check out good. But it will not even spit, much less start. Any suggestions?

There is gas in the bowl. It drains out when I open the drain petcock. However, I will try that again because it acts exactly like it is out of gas.

Due to various boring issues I let the taotao sit for a few weeks. Shot of ether no good so I got kinda ticked off and took it to a motorcycle shop run by a guy I know. Problem was faulty pilot jet in the carburetor. Problem solved but dang. I guess I'll stop thinking about hanging up a shingle advertising scooter mechanic work. Anyway just popped back in to 'splain m'sef.

It's great you let us know. Enjoy the scooter. The QMB engine is a solid performer.

Yep, soon as I got it running I came back with the solution. I hate reading long threads and ending up more confused than I was to begin with. I expect my problem with the carb does not happen very often but it did to me. Just something else to be aware of.
