Rattle noise from the fan side - 125cc By gingel (Read 962 times)

Hi,

I noticed recently a rattle / knocking noise that seems to come from behind the cooling fan.
I can only hear it at idle. Once you accelerate it sounds ok, and runs smoothly.

I'm sure it's not the roller weights that rattle.

I read that some people had problems with the starter clutch, which caused a rattle noise.
Does the needle bearing inside the starter clutch can make that noise when it's failing?

What about the connecting rod bearing? If that's the cause, is it supposed to make rattle / knocking also when you accelerate?

Could be a few different things making noise in that area,,, a video would help heaps

Hi,

It was raining here the past week.
I hope that tomorrow it will not rain, so i can make a video.

Another thing i noticed yesterday (weather was a little cold),
when i started the scooter when engine is cold (after night),
i heard something like a squealing noise when i hit the starter button.
It was only for a second or two, and after that the scooter started OK.
It didn't do that again, when the engine was warm.

Anyone familiar with that squealing noise?

These manufacturers can be a little stingey when it comes to properly lube and greases when they build these things,,, that's probably the issue

This just sounds like the valves need minor adjustment. They are slightly loose and as start to go that noise goes away. I think you need a valve adjustment. Check the library. Not sure what your scooter needs for the intake as exhaust valves.

Thank you for the reply.
I actually checked the valves not a while ago, and only the exhaust valve needed some adjustment,
but it was still within specs (0.10-0.14 mm). It's a 125cc SYM scooter, and i usually set the valves at about
0.12mm.

Someone told me it sounds like the connecting rod bearing.
What do you think?

I have this scooter for about 12 years, and it begun to make that
squealing noise when it's cold only at the past year.
What can cause this squealing noise when it's cold?

I am thinking it's the starter, it's so very cold, but yours never did this before. Has it been this cold ever before?

Ever since I have tried to start my Lance or my Honda in colder than 30 degrees or so it start making the squealing noise, but if it's warmer than this no noises.

Do one change and check results.
