Truely a great bike,,,stupid underrated,,,there were so many great bikes being sold at the time and that one just got edged out,,,stellar engine in that thing,,,,I'm telling you a decent set of shocks ,,, rework the forks with belray or maxima 15 or 20 weight fork oil and you have a giant killer on your hands,,,a free flow air filter and a rejet job and some less restrictive slip on silencers you'll not only lose a ton of weight but it'll bump the power prolly 15-20%,,,then it'll really be insane,,,mid 9 quarter miles, with tons of smiles,,, and all for like no money,,,you'll have way less than $2000 in it,,,,where can you get a bike that'll rip a 9 second quarter for that kind of dough?

still working on carbs. never had carbs fight me like this. mikuni bds33ss, i get them set then the next day one runs rich, reset and the next day a different one runs rich. keeps jumping around and driving me crazy. compression is good and no known air leaks so i don't know why a different plug gets dry fouled.

may have found the issue! the plastic airbox on top of the carbs has a crack in it. it may be allowing unmetered air in. hopefully a few layers of silicone sealer will fix that. i've been enjoying the bike so far as it runs like a scalded cat all the way up to 11k. it's amazingly light and nimble and dusted the neighbors 1200 sporster.
