Hi all i'm new on this site , i have a 1980 honda passport c70 i can not keep it timed i put a new piston rings cylinder and head new carb new points and condensor it starts up fine runs about 5 mins then stops i checks the points gap it was at .014 and when it stops it about .009 i check to see if the screws are loose but all good their so i put it back to .014 start it again same thing runs about 5 min then stops i check it again its back to .009 not sure what to do next ? The screw that's holding the points is bottoming in the hole and you think your tightening on the points plate and you're not,, put a washer under the hold down screws head and the problem goes away

I owned a c70 a 1980 in the summer of 88. Blue fairing basket.

Drove me nuts. Two seasons I fought with that sonuva biscuit. Only by accident I figured it out. I dropped the set screw and had to use a different one from my "xtras" bin. Still runs fine.

AND? I was simply giving props. If you have some how managed to take offense to a simple statement I will not apologize. I was giving someone respect for a possible solution that not everyone would have thought of. People were on this particular forum seem to get angerd quickly. Wonder why that is? Cyborg, again no offense was intended, and I don't get what youre angered about.

Again, I am sorry. There is no excuse for my acting like an arse. Damn meds are killing me.... EDIT: Yup, I would about guarantee that was the problem. Its kinda rough when people don't come back with an answer aftr someone gives them a go direction to look in.
