Hello all,
not related to a scooter (sorry) but this seems such a well informed buch of people thought I'd reach out for your help.
It's a GY6 150cc mounted in a friends quad bike (ATV/4 wheeler). Old and simple - runs well. She uses it to get about her family farm, and is partially disabled so it's an important thing for her to have some mobility.
It's had a charging problem.
So I have established that the RR was U/S - diode shorted- so fitted a new one.
The stator seemed to have a short to deck, so changed that. When I took the flywheel off - the insides was covered in what looked like a mud wash - so I think it's been for a dip in its past. It's a 6 pole.
Main fuse is good; earths seem ok, can't find a broken wire (yet - still looking !)
Still not charging.
I've tried fully charged battery and a pretty flat one - results the same - only get battery volts irrespective of RPM
The unloaded output from the stator is 28V AC at about 1500 rpm, but when I plug it back into circuit - it drops to about 9-10V AC - so not enough to fire up the RR !
I've just ordered another RR - as I'm at a loss to think what else it could be. - the stator winding resistance is 0.9ohm
I'm flummoxed ! What am I missing.
In the UK if that matters.
Thanks everyone !
Cheers
Joe

If you have decent voltage coming out of the stator then the next in line is the regulation

What Cyborg said.
The stator and rr have to be matching types or no-go.
These things fall under 3 general types: 1: Single phase, half wave. The weakest and cheapest type. Usually on 50cc up to older 150 2. Single phase, full wave. Stronger and better than half wave. Onnewer 150 3. three phase. Usually on larger machines.
If yours is a 6 pole then chances are good that its a single phase half wave.

Thanks.
My next action is to replace the RR again with one from the same supplier as the stator. The origanal was completely unmarked.
I'd say it is an old 150. Starts with one touch of the starter though - runs well !
Cheers
