I found this 50w bulb on ebay and I am just wondering if the electrical system on the 150cc GY6 motors will handle this large of a bulb, I currently have a 35w and it works fine but I thought if it will handle it, the 50w would be a little brighter, I also figure it will take a little more power away from the engine having to run a bulb that size but I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to use a bulb this size and if so what the results are or were. Thanks, Shan cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280524240053&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Generally, the bulb supplied with the scoot represents the limit that the system will handle. Another thing you have to consider is the amount of heat the bulb puts out which can be more than the reflector and lens is rated for. I know that the lens on my scoot actually has the watt rating printed on the lens. Your system and lens may handle the extra 15 watts, but you should keep an eye on things at first.

Yes exactly you may be drawing down the battery ever so slowly until.....Zoink, won't crank. I've got a 55W wired right into the battery with a switch on the dash, if it's light out and nobody's around I shut it off and give the system a chance to catch up. You wouldn't have that option unfortuately. Rich

the way to get more power available is to replace all the other bulbs with led's. then you still have to deal with heat. jr has done a lot of work on making the leads part of the solution. john

Upgrading to LED's is a good idea for improving the performance of the DC charging system. However, most 150's use a separate stator winding for the headlights which run on AC so the LED upgrade would not help out for the AC powered lights. Some guys try to run a DC headlight by running off the battery after doing the LED upgrade. I believe that's what Bashan did. Has anyone tried a hybrid system with one AC and one DC headlight?

This is the type bulb my Roketa MC-74 scooter takes, cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Atv-Quad-Go-Kart-Buggie-Bike-Light-Bulb-35-350w-Parts-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27aa76ae2cQQitemZ170363629100QQptZLHQ5fDefaultDomainQ5f100 it has one large head light in the middle and 2 of the small push in type bulbs that remind me of the push in bulbs that are used in dash lights on all the older cars and pickups if I remember right the part number on some of them was # 194 bulbs. Mine came with a 25w-25w bulb and I ordered a 35w -35w from scappy, it is brighter but I ride several miles in the dark at 5:00Am in the morning and would really like to have a better light. I think the H-4 9003 bulb may work in place of mine because my bulb goes into a socket that looks like the base of that bulb but I am not for sure, what do you guys think? the link says 350w but that is a misprint

Sixity has some really nice LEDs, with good prices and fast shipping! I have already installed a number of their LEDs on the 2 DiBlasi bikes for ScooterGuy St. Louis.
Another source for the 1157 LEDs is SuperBrightLEDs.com. I run one on my DiBlasi (after all, I am the Moped Doctor & Chief Fleet Fixer) as the stock 1157 drained juice from my headlight when I'd put on the brakes.
I replaced the stock CEV tail/brake light 2-bulb unit with a single round metal one from AutoZone that uses a 1157 bulb. A new CEV unit is over $52.00 from the importer...yet the Metal one was $6.99 and uses 1 bulb instead of 2 differnet sizes. And the LED is much better at handling vibration and voltage spikes! The stock units were eating bulbs- and with LEDs I don't have that problem.
From a long-term cost for maintenance & replacements, LEDs are the way to go!

I went to SuperbrightLEDS.com and wow....! they have loads of LED's and from what I saw the prices are great also, I have a couple of the 1157 LED's but have been unable to figure out where I hid them from myself at............... I ordered them out of Hong Kong and it took me about a month to get them best I remember, they were like a $1 each but dont look nearly as good as the led's on that sight, I will be ordering some but I will need to check and see what my turn signal bulbs are first, I want to replace all of them to reduce the draw on my electrical system. Thanks again, docmackinnon
