Hi guys. I finally made an account, as a fresh scooter owner this forum has been a life saver so far. But I've run into a problem that I can't seem to find a solid answer for.
I had a running 50cc that I've been driving to work, it's my only transportation. The body was TRASHED when I bought it and I had to assemble it from a pile of parts. It ran perfectly for 3 months until I bought a new frame with a clean beautiful body and swapped my motor onto it. The motor ran for 5 seconds after the swap and hasn't come back alive since.
What I've tried to fix it: -cleaned gas tank -changed oil (motor sticker specifies 15w 40) -new spark plug -new spark plug wire -new carburetor -new fuel pump -swapped starter solenoid -swapped starter motor -tried battery AND Kickstart, same result -tried all old components AND new components with 3 different used GY6 motors and they all respond and act the same. They'll fire up with a bit of starting fluid then die after about 1 to 2 seconds.
I'm starting to be convinced that my new frame and body is haunted by the husband of the widow I bought it from. If you have any ideas, please help. As I said, this is my only transportation and now it's dead.

my good man, forgive me, but you are not doing the basics as far as I can see. checking for spark. testing compression with a GAUGE. making ABSOLUTELY SURE you have fuel getting to the carb. making sure air is flowing IN and OUT of the engine. I don't see you stating any of this in your post. if you have one of those fuel pump bikes, my hat's off to you. I've heard too much negative feedback about that system. I suspect that system to be the problem first. the gas tank is under the foot floor and gas has to travel uphill. there's nothing wrong with having an ugly vehicle. the prettier your bike is the more likely it is to be stolen. that faring gets in the way as well. when they build the bike that is one of their objectives. to make the vehicle hard to work on. that's why you see people selling them so quickly as soon as the first thing goes wrong.

Rust in the gas tank was the culprit. My Puma Cycles Romeo is up and running like new again after ditching the cleaned out gas tank and going with a full tank swap.I noticed after sitting overnight that the fuel in the fuel filter had separated into a layer of brown at the bottom and clear at the top. Which let me know the gas tank cleaning I did before I ever put gas in it was not good enough to prevent rust from contaminating my gas. Too many rusty spots in the tank. I didn't mention testing for spark, gas flow, and compression because that's the first thing I did, as mentioned, very basic first steps and all seemed well. But if gas won't burn it won't burn, no matter how much flow and air lol

so many people out there have that same problem creeping up on them and don't even know it. sediment is a major factor in all of these fuel pumps that go bad. I've had a moped hobby for years and a couple of times a year I would have to siphon the gas out, strain it with a tee shirt and put it back in. it took only a few minutes and I got ALOT of garbage out every time. it saves alot of agony. good for you!
