Hi all, so I recently took my scooter completely apart. and then ..managed to put it back together..+5 for me:) but now it makes a squeaky noise most likely from the fan. I only does it after its warmed up . Heres what I know so far: the lower fan shroud(cover) thing is missing I bought a new one but it doesn't fit. one brake pad in the back is worn the bottom skid plate is still of (until i fix the fan cover). it never made noises until I took it apart.
Will I damage the engine if I drive it without the lower fan cover(it cools the engine)

Yes, it will run hot and damage it. The cooling fins run transverse and are specificallt designed to accept the air flow from the cooling mechanism. If it's already cooled down some where you live you'd PROBABLY be okay. Now, the skid plate, do you mean that little metal plate on the left near the engine code? It actually is a runner plate for the center stand. If you have it off your center stand will squeek or scrape as the engine moves with the suspension; or is the noise RPM dependent? Then it's the engine turning. Good for you on getting the puppy running again. Rich

Ok so I got the breaks replaced, (stupid pins stuck, what a pain) and got a fan cover, so the important things are done. but for the love of god! the noise is driving me crazy.. I think it is more then one thing causing the noises which would explain why I couldn't tell what was making it at first. It seems to squeak with the engine. It also seems to squeak when it bounces or moves. maybe shocks? It didn't make any noises before I took it apart so I wounder if maybe it got wet/rust from sitting outside. I had a tarp over the frame, and the engine was never outside. Maybe I need to grease some joints or something.

no, but as soon as I am on it it does, I don't think it makes any noise when it on the center stand. But I will test it just to be sure

that's weird as soon as I put it on the center stand all the noise stops.. I jiggled it, bounced it revved it and maybe even dry-humped it. not a sound..what does that mean?

I found a large hole where a bolt goes, I must have lost it when I re-assembled it. I replaced it hopeful it would help but no, I still makes the noise. It is definitely does not make any noise when the center stand is holding it.But as soon as I take it of the stand it starts, whether Its running or not. Although when it runs it does seem to be worse, maybe the vibration of the engine causes whatever the "squeaky part" is to rub more? All I know is people are looking at me funny now whenever they hear me coming:) lol

I did some trouble shooting and I found the spot that (seems to) makes the noise when the center stand locks in place(resting) it seems to makes the noise. If I use my hand and just barely take the pressure of the noise seems to stop. I took a little piece of plastic and put it between the contacts which seems to work but I don't think that is gonna be a long term fix. any ideas? Uploaded with ImageShack.us

There is usually some kind of rubber bumper to keep the center stand from making noise. This is the one on my Tank 150. Attachments:

I remember seeing that rubber wheel before.. now its gone. well that certainly would explain it. that funny how losing such a small piece of rubber could so much noise. well that cant be too hard to find. I currently am employing a Tim Allen trick..Duck tape for padding It should work for a day or two:) Now that they cant hear me coming anymore it's back to my blood thirsty life of crime lol

Yea I'll probable dig around for some sort of rubber , I wounder if a small door stopper would work, It's a good hard rubber. maybe a bolt through the center and a nut on the back end will do it.
