Gas mileage seems to be dropping. Could this be that the valves need to be reset? I have over 9000 miles on the scoot now. I have taken off the air filter, cleaned it, oiled it and replaced it and the mileage still hasn't picked up.
Running 60 mph slowing down to make a turn, I here a backfire. I here it backfire just once, not anymore.
Is there a standard mileage for setting the valves or just whenever the scoot starts acting up? For example, every 1000 miles, or 1500 miles?

Just when they start acting up, Harder to start, backfireing, dying when you come to a stop or wanting to die etc..

I really don't know if this has anything to do with it but today as I was ridding to work I was running about 60-70 mph and doing fine. In about 20 miles into the trip, the scooter dies. I mean no go, kaput. I put on the turn signal and coasted over to the side of the road. Came to a complete stop, put my feet down and tried to restart . Kicked right off and started and I was back on the road and heading to work. No problems the rest of the way to work. What the heck is going on  |

Honda recommends checking the valves at 600 and then every 8000 miles for the 244cc engine. Yamaha recommends checking the valves every 12000 miles with no mention about an initial setting.
China scoot maintenance is not so concise. First thing is a valve adjust during the PDI or whenever you acquire the scoot. After that I would check the valves at intervals of 3000 to 4000 miles, but there is no specific China scoot maintenance interval that I have found for 250cc scoots. Of course, there is always the possibility that the valves may need adjusting before the maintenance interval comes up.

Today, I made about a 125 mile ride .  I stopped 3 times, and each time I went to start the scoot, I had to try several times before I got it to start. It is definitely time to do the valve adjustment.  I was trying to stall it out until winter for a project but I better do it now. JEESH!  |
