what do they expect? Even thru the resession they raised thier prices. Sales are going down and they still are raising prices. I been to most of the dealers in the area and they have 2008-2010 models still. They come in with the new models with higher prices and then tell you the older model is discounted because its price is less even though it is what its list price was. Then throw destination, prep, and a few other things they try and tack on.

You have to do the research ahead of time and find what others are selling them for. Then you can come in and haggle with them. It all depends how much it cost them per unit and how much profit they want to make. They of course are going to try and get the most money out of you that they can. But if you know what others are selling the same product for then you have a chance that they will match the price. It really boils down on how much they paid for it orginally, some dealers pay more for the same product, and that is usually due to the Number of Units they bought at the time. The more units a dealer buys the cheaper they get it per unit, its called Volume Discount. Alleyoop

Hey ally that works to haggle the car prices down but these MC dealerships around here wont really work with ya or haggle the price down any. They will just hang onto the bikes thinking they will sell it for what they want or keep it. That mentality has ready put one of them out of business.

Haggle, just like buying a new car. Here super unleaded has reached $3.59 in some places, jumped 8 cents at all stations across the board, reg., unleaded., and super yesterday. Will it help scooter/mc sales? Perhaps, but I think most in this country think of these vehicles as recreational rather than utilitarian. This attitude may change if and when gas hits $5.00 or more a gallon but then only for city and burb dwellers. My wifes daily trip to her job is 50 miles round trip. We live in the county. It is all going to be determined by economics.

The last time gas prices did this people hit the web and bought a ton of China scoots. 50cc scoots are still at $600 and 150s are at the same price now as they were in 2008, maybe less. It should be interesting this Spring to see what happens if gas stays at $3.50 a gallon or more. $4,000 Japanese 250s might not sell, but look at how many Chinese 250 scooters and motorcycles are at $2000 and less. If Chinese bikes are as reliable as my 50cc Cub clones it should make life pretty miserable for Big Four bike dealers. I wouldn't mind living with this for half the price of a new Suzuki TU-250 or Kawasaki Ninja. www.mxmotorsports.us/Roketa-p/mc-51-250.htm

I do not believe you will change the american people loving their big cars no matter what the price of gas is. If scooter sells pick up it will be to the younger crowd but you will not see the older crowd buying scoots for needed transportation. The older crowd buys them as a toy to putts around, I am one of them, I have two Gas Guzzlers that can only take primo gas. But do I go and buy a Aero or something smaller hell no I like a big car with all the bells and whistles.
As for the dealers that will not deal, that is up to them, if they want to loose a sale and make a little less profit to get rid of older models so be it. Why should anyone pay original price for an older model when the newer models have been updated and upgraded. They will go out of business and actually loose money to whomever buys their inventory.
You would not believe how cheap a distributor gets scoots and parts, but here again it is Volume and it works down the line. Imagine a dealer wanting to buy 5 scoots for 520 each, then being offered 460 each if he buys 6 or more, I saw the invoice. Then I went to the site and he was selling them for over 900 each plus shipping. Now the distributor has to make money as well so you can imagine what it cost him per unit if he could offer them at 460 each. Alleyoop

What! A 250 single for $2000 less than a new CBR250 Honda after freight, prep and gratuity.
I'm telling you if I ever get the chance to buy a Chinese bike I just might do it. I'd love to see how it would stand up over time.
