so I opened up the cover and the belt was crumbs , copper strings wrapped around the clutch pully , I cleaned it all up . installed a new belt , I used a rachet to turn the variator to get the belt on . I started it up it was in high gear , when I looked at it , it looked like the clutch pully had all the copper strands, with a close look with the belt removed I see a few strands on the variator pully I can't get them out , so In will have to remove the variator .
So with that said will I have to replace the variator , or will it survive .
Where I was working on the scooter I didn't an impact gun so I have to transport to my garage . and yes this is the longbo voyager bali.
So I had just changed the belt and clutch before this happened about 100 miles ago . The sysptom was in the morning rolling it up the driveway that is pitched it would buck from the drive train , I thought it might have been the clutch or belt slipping I'm wondering if it was or is the variator sticking , please opinions .
Thanks John

Ordinarily, just cleaning up the mess from the shredded belt which would involve taking the variator and maybe the clutch apart should be all that's necessary to prepare for the replacement belt. It sounds like you have other problems since the belt you installed 100 miles ago was completely destroyed. What brand belt and what size was it? Did you clean the pulley halves (sheaves) on the variator and clutch when you replaced the belt? Let us know what you find when you take things apart for cleaning.

well I removed the variator today pulled out the strands of copper , sanded the pullys and reinstalled with new belt . I found the rollers out of place/turned on there side . Should I have greased the shaft that that the pully slides on .

>>lithium grease
I love this stuff. I use it on throttle cables instead of oil. I just spray it down the cable from a spray can The stuff comes out like water and then the propellant evaporates and you have a very slipper film of grease...
Also sand the belt! ALL belts are coated with a varnish, that helps the rubber stay like new in storage. This stuff should be removed on a new belt. You want to sand the angled parts of the belt (the part that touches the pulleys) with about a 120 grit emery cloth
jrryan is right on about pulley resurfacing... also take a bit of time to break the belt in. Don't throw in a new belt and WOT...It needs to wear in and get comfortable...
