I am trying to do my valve adjustment by how it shows on here and I think I have a slight problem. I have turned the crank numerous times lining up the timing marks on the chain (numerous = probably about 30 times 1 turn at a time and checking the other side) and can't get the marks on the opposite side to line up (that's a lot of getting up and down for an old fart like me lmao). So I reached from underneath the scooter and turned the crank to line up the marks on the side where the oil dip stick is and when I did the timing mark on the chain sprocket was on opposite side of the mark on the housing. If I am thinking right does that mean my timing is off? Any and all help would be appreciated. (Linhai Motor)

I was thinking the same thing about being 180 degrees out. Plug is out and I have tried to align the marks in the way described but both will not even come close to being aligned at same time. I am thinking maybe I am gonna have to take the timing chain off and turn just the cam. Is that what you are thinking? When the marks are aligned as they are now the valves are on the high lobe and the piston is on TDC. Checked the TDC with a wire in the plug hole. When it reached top that is when the mark on dipstick side was perfectly aligned and the timing chain marks are 180 out.
I am mechanically inclined just not on these scooters. Have always fixed my own cars until all this new stuff started coming out on them. lol

Just curious YELLOW here, are you adjusting your valves because hard starting or what. Does the scoot run good otherwise? OR did you put in new head or cam or something.
If you did not do anything and the scoot runs good except maybe for hard starting or something and it is time to adjust the valves. Then do not pay attention to the markings on the FLYWHEEL so much and lineing up the CAM SPROCKET.
Another way to adjust them is turn it over until the valve you are going to adjust CLOSES Completely which is when it gets off the LOBE. At that point you should be able to wiggle the Rocker. Adjust that one and then do the same to the other Valve.
The "'F" fireing duration of the PLUG area on the FLYWHEEL markings are anywhere on both sides of the "F" Marking. That area is about 1" in length. Lefty

Alley; The thing was running but struggling at around 50MPH and that was about all i was gonna get out of her. I intended on just doing the basics and my own checklist so I would know what had been done to the scoot. I believe somebody tinkered with it that didn't know what they were doing. The timing chain and gear looks new and they also replaced a few other things that are minor. Like the 20 amp fuse next to the battery they changed to a 30 amp and then zip tied it to the frame under the lower running board, so if I ever needed to replace that fuse I would have had to remove the running board. I am gonna fix that as well but for now I wanna address the timing issue. I know that motors will run 180 degrees out but really sluggish and not with the over all power they should have.

AH, well that is a different story. I did not know you bought that sucker off someone else, and that they may have put on a new top end and cam and such. Then yes if it is 180 degress it will run but not have much power. Guess you will have to take the Cam off line up the Flywheel and line up the Cam Sprocket at TDC(BUMMER). Alleyoop

Don't forget whatever you stick down the plug hole to watch when it comes up will HAPPEN TWICE, Once on the Power Stroke and Once on the Exahaust Stroke. The only time Both Valves will be Closed will be on the Power Stroke. So that is why you have to check if the Cam is lined up and the Timeing Mark is Pointing NEAR the Flywheel Timeing Marks. The bike has been running and I will try it again as you mention this morning. I will work with it. It's kinda a shame they didn't put both marks on same side tho to make it a little easier. lol
I will report after I get (as Larry the cable Guy says) "Get Er Done"

Yeah I think I was just to tired and hurting yesterday. Went out first thing this morning and it only took one time to get it right. Then I was gonna do the rich/lean on carb but I couldn't get to the screw on the bottom. I didn't have a short enough screwdriver nor a flex shaft driver. My son brought me an angle drive ratchet type screwdriver this evening so tomorrow I am gonna tackle the carb. Neat thing was after I got the valves done it made a huge difference. Just one little tick on the starter and it cranked right up, unlike before having to hit the starter 5 or 6 times to get it to start. Then I did the coolant and now I have a small problem with a drop of water from the drain bolt.I think I may have to put a little silicone on it.
