I replaced a battery with a Yuasa (made in Taiwan) and was told it is one of the best. Well that bat is bad now. Bought a new one (about $62) R440 here is SA. On advice from a dealer instead of putting the electrolite in and off i go, I put the new battery on trickle charge for 8 hours after putting the electrolite in. I am told this will ensure a better battery performance and life. What is your view on this procedure?

You can use a battery after putting in the Electrolytes. Just ride and go. Then again a new battery is only as good as it's first charge IMO. The instructions on a new battery say to charge it before use. You will get longer life and better starts if you charge a bat. before using it. If you just add the acid and go, you will be buying a new battery before you have to. A battery charger is a VERY good tool to own. 62$ seems a bit high for a scoot battery but, a good charge will make your money well spent. Follow the dealer instructions and charge it new!!!!

That is a good price for a Yuasa battery. Charging the battery before use is recommended for max battery life. The maximum charging current should be equal to 10% of the ampere-hour rating.
