My little QMB ran fine yesterday. At 1:00am today I tried to start and found a surprise. I started it up and put my gear on while it warmed up as usual but, for some reason It dies at idle. I pulled it back in to the garage and took the cage to work. I guessed it was time for a valve adjustment. Anyway I got home and did a valve job (.004 on both), Still have a problem though. Unless I give it throttle the scoot dies. Took it for a test run and every time I stop or let go of the throttle is dies. Can someone point me in the right direction? Unless I adjusted things wrong I am running low on ideas

Where is your throttle set? The back wheel should just begin to turn, then you back the throttle screw off 1/4 turn or so.
Could be a plugged idle jet but I doubt it...check vacuum hose and intake elbow for leaks or cracks in the plastic gasket...

Thanks for the tips guys. I won't have time till Fri, Saturday to take things apart. I plan on checking the valves (again), cleaning the carb jets and checking for air leaks. Anything else ya can think of while I got things apart?

Joking aside, right now my scoot is unsafe to ride. Engine stalling every time you come to a stop is dangerous!!! It starts an runs fine just, I have to give it throttle to keep it from stalling. If I'm not on the throttle it dies wont even idle The worst part is we have perfect riding wheather right now. I'm going crazy here, All work and no play makes Scotty a dull boy.

Sounds to me like your idle jet is plugged. Need a carb cleaning. Or you have the air fuel mixture screw in too far. It should be set at 2-1/2 turns out to start... Something is wrong with the idle circuit of the carb...you can see how it works in this drawing Attachments:

Yes, I agree not enough fuel at Idle to keep it running. And with the UNI it may be running Lean and Mean if you have to keep on the throttle to keep it running. Did you adjust the Fuel Ratio screw to get the HIGHEST RPMS at IDLE? Alleyoop
Start it Up Let it warm up at least 5 minutes so it Gets OFF the Enricher Feed.
1.Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Counter Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting. a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 1 until the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing. b. Then turn it 1/8 Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw.
**** IF on the First 1/4 Turn the IDLE DOES NOT go up or does nothing THEN Turn the Screw Back 1/4 and GO TO 2.
2. Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting. a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 2 until the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing. b. Then turn it 1/8 Counter Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw.
*** IF 1 OR 2 DOES NOT CHANGE THE IDLE you have a Clogged Pilot Jet or its Passages and you will have to Clean the Jets and Passages out.***
Another thing you can also try is Tape over 1/3 of the Air Filter to cut some of the air coming in.

Last night i did a little tinkering and found my UNI Had torn around the band clamp on the carb. Put the stock air box back on but, Now it really hard to start and wont stay running at all unless I give it throttle. I'm thinking when the coupling tore. it sucked in some rubber so, I'm off to pull the carb and check things out. I'm gonna need to down jet anyway with the stock box. Wish me luck!!! I may need it to get to work tomorrow or ill have to ride the Bicycle

Well pulled things apart, went back to the stock airbox and ran a copper wire thru both jets. Result--- seems to start/run like a champ again. going for a test run in a few minutes. I think it was like you guys said a clogged pilot jet. I could not see light thru it till I wiggled a wire around inside. Blew it out and I'm runnin again. Thanks allot Guys you don't know how much it means to me for the advise
