This just recently started. I come to a stop and sometimes the scooter will jump. I keep looking thinking the back tires and jumping a bit but they aren't. It is worse when I take off from a start it will pop and jump. I can't see anything visibly wrong from a somewhat quick inspection. It is defiantly coming from the back of the trike. I'm scared to ride it now as I'm afraid something will fly apart and leave me stranded.
Icebear PST150H 2010 (No Reverse) 150cc.
Anyone point me on what to look for? Any ideas?

Check the chain tension and also that the hubs are tight.

skytex DON'T DRIVE IT ANYMORE UNTIL YOU GET IT CHECKED OUT!!!
Even though this trike doesn't have reverse, I'm going out on a limb & assume that it is still utilizing the forward/ reverse box but w/ out the shift mechanizim... Which means they may still be using the same bearing set up, & if this is the case then it's probably still missing the RADIAL OUTPUT BEARING...
THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT IS COULD BE MISSING A BEARING, WHICH IS CAUSING THE OUT PUT SHAFT TO GIVE ALLOWING FINAL OUTPUT GEAR TO JUMP TEETH... IF THE LEFT SIDE ENGINE CASE HASN'T BEEN DAMAGED YET, THIS IS AN EASY FIX... BUT, VARY LIKELY THE LEFT SIDE ENGINE CASE COULD BE DAMAGED, IN WHICH CASE CAN STILL BE REPAIRED, BUT REQUIRES A COMPLETE TARE DOWN, & A NEW LEFT SIDE ENGINE CASE... LETS HOPE & PRAY THE ENGINE CASE IS NOT DAMAGED, AS THE ENGINE FOR THE 150 CC TRIKE IS NOT AS EASY TO GET...
HERE IS THE LINK TO MY 7 PAGE WRITE UP ON THIS VARY ISSUE... THERE IS DETAILED INFO & PICS OF THE PROBLEM, WHAT TO LOOK FOR, & HOW TO REAIR...
scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=trike&action=display&thread=925&page=1
I WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE ORDEAL... IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL FEEL FREE TO PM OR EMAIL ME... ALSO I'M SURE JIM AT RAPID REPAIR WOULD ASSIST, AS HE IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE SAME MODEL TRIKE ALSO W/ MISSING BEARING...David Sr.

I had read threw your post wildman. Was afraid this might be the problem except that yours had reverse. How do I go about lookin to see if there is any damage and to see if that bearing is there or not?
Jim, I checked the chain tension and it seems fine. Tight but not rubber band tight. Defiantly not enough slack to let it jump teeth or too tight as to make it bind up. What are you referring to as hubs?

Hope it is the Axle that just came out some and the Castle Nut needs to be tighten. I have the 2009 PST150H Trike with the Reverse as you can see in my signature. The hubs are what holds the RIM and Tire on the Axle. The HUB has 4 Bolts and you put the RIM on the BOlts The HUB is the one with the BOLTS. Check the CASTLE NUT that is the BIG NUT that holds the HUB onto the AXLE and the CASTLE NUT has a COTTER PIN going through one of the CASTLE NUT SLOTS and through a HOLE in the AXLE. Just grab the CASTLE NUT and see if you can MOVE IT LEFT AND RIGHT if you can YOU HAVE to Take the COTTER PIN out and TIghten the NUT up real good and LINE ONE of the SLOTS with the HOLE in the AXLE and stick the COTTER PIN in. Here is what I am talking about: Alleyoop

Wildman, Yes when it does that I can only think of 3 things, 1.) Chain jumping teeth or binding(loose or not aligned), 2.) Castle Nuts loose causing the HUB to jump the splines or 3.) The worst the dreaded missing Bearing needed for extra support of the Shaft which without it causes it to move and not fully mesh with gear. Alleyoop

The castle nut on the right side is DEFINATLY loose! I could wiggle the wheel side to side and up and down. I got the wheel off and tightened it up. Gonna get the other side after dinner. I dunno if it's loose or not but I'll pull the wheel and tighten it up anyways.
Now my question is this. How can I tighten this nut? Largest wrench I have is 3/4". It's apparently larger than this. Is there a way via those notches?
Also, the nut is in further than the hole will prevent from opening back out. Would it hurt to place a 2nd washer behind the first?

skytex YES, you can add a washer to take up the slack... You need to to get your hands on a 1/2 drive socket fits, I can't remember what size though, I just know which socket in my draw that fits... You'll also need a long 1/2" breaker bar, or 1/2" Torque wrench, or a electric or air impact... Well the right size wrench will work, but not my tool of choice for the job though...

Oh skytex Just thought I'd add... That the recommendations the other DUDE'S here are giving you, are good recommendations, & really should be looked at first as they are suggesting... I normally recommend starting w/ the easier & cheaper possibilities first, then work up to the tougher more expensive possibilities as you diagnose the problem... I just jumped the gun a little... These drivetrains have come to make me just little jumpy... NO PUN INTENDED... OK, CARRY ON!!!

Skytex, Here is all you need, the Socket is a 1 1/8 inch. Alleyoop Here you can see washer behind the Castle nut to bring the nut out so the Slot of the Castle nut is OVER the HOLE in the Axle to put the Cotter pin and HOld the Nut in place.

Great. I ran outta time tonight/too tired to think straight. But I'll have both wheels done this weekend. I did check the chain tension and it's good. Jerked it a bit by hand and nothing loose. I'll take it for a short test run Saturday and see if these hubs were the problem. If not, I'll need to know how to check for those bearings. Really id like to do that anyways if it's not too big of a project.

Well it is a pretty big project thats why we mentioned it would be the worst problem. Putting in the bearing is no big deal but getting to it is. Alleyoop
