Any one know how to by pass the switch or where it is? I'm sure I could find it if I looked, but it's hard to see under the Piaggio BV500. I want to be able to start it up while I gather up my helmet and gloves ..

Put it on the Center Stand and put up the Side stand. Alleyoop Well the reason I ride scooters instead of motorcycle is because I had right hip replaced and it is very hard to swing leg up and over the seat. Also hard to use center stand. I've done it 3 times and it feels like the bike is going to fall over to the opposite side. Not a lot of strength in my right leg. Swinging my left leg over doesn't feel right because the bike is leaning to the left. Also not good to plant my right leg and pivot on it.

I know what you mean about the centerstand, they can be a PITA and elsewhere. Here's two screenshots out of the service manual for your BV 500 of the sidestand wiring diagram:
I'm sorry but it looks like you're just going to have to get under there and find the switch. It looks like it's pretty straightforward once you do. I only see one wire in and out on the diagram. That's quite an impressive machine you have there. Here's a link to our manuals section. You'll find your bike in there and many more. Rich

Thanks. Looks like the easiest way if to just remover the wire coming from the safety shut off switch on the handlebars rather than try to work 6" off the ground. D:\Notes\motorcycles\Piaggio BV500\2011_04_28\P4060240aa.jpg[/img]

I was working on my Pegasus this morning and thought I'd take a look at my side stand switch and add to this thread. The switch is held on by an 8 mm bolt:
The bolt and switch came off easily:
It's an odd switch that has a tabbed ring that fits around the stand retaining bolt. I'm assuming it's a magnetic switch since I couldn't feel any click as I rotated it around. I made careful note of the run position. There are three wires, a ground, a yellow/black, and a green/white.
I would imagine this works by grounding the coil along the yellow/black when the stand goes down. I will get the multimeter out in a few days and do continuity tests to trace them but for right now I'm just going to tie off the switch in the run position with some zip ties:
And trim the excess:
I put it on the side stand and cranked it up just to be sure. Now for all you folks that want to tell me I shouldn't be removing safety and pollution devices, I took the PAIR device off while I was at it.
