Has anyone here ever attempted to install some type of vibration dampening material for excessive engine vibration? I own a 2010 Ice Bear Compeller, 300cc trike. It's been tuned-up and checked and well, it just vibrates all to heck! Especially at idle and at low speed. At higher speeds, she runs smooth. I have a nerve condition and it's the 2nd year in a row that riding has given me pain! I'm afraid I am going to have to sell my trike if we can't solve this problem! Now, I know I cannot possibly compare my trike to my friend's Gold Wing trike! But I rode for hundreds of miles on the back of her trike and never felt the slightest vibration. What do you want for 30k or so? LOL Anyway, I know it is possible to have a vibration-free ride, with the right materials....and the know-how! Any constructive advice would be appreciated. My S.O. is pretty handy but without a manual it makes things that much tougher! Regards to all, MarciaG

Reducing engine vibrations on these scoots is a subject which has not been researched too much as far as I know. I have never seen anything offered for this. Have you thought of the gel seats and combo memory foam gel seats that are fairly popular? Here's a link: www.amspecialtiesusa.com/gelpad.htmIf you are not bothered by handlebar vibes, then the seat remedy might be just the way to go.

Thanks Cruiser. Unfortunately, cushions haven't done the trick. I got myself one of these: www.softbottom.net/1643653.htmlThe problem is in the seat, not so much in the hands. Yesterday I rode using a double cushion (gel on the bottom and 2 foam) PLUS (believe it or not) a wheelbarrow innertube on top of that! Add to that, gel padded biker shorts. Today I am in agonizing pain. It was as if I didn't ride on any of it. Seems my only solution is isolating the vibration by more drastic measures. I know...probably best to cut my losses and sell, but I am not ready to give up just yet. Still looking for ideas on how to "cushion" the engine....take it out and add rubber....well, I don't even know the correct terminology. MarciaG

You are right in saying you cannot compare the Compellor against the Goldwing. The Goldwing with its modern flat opposed 6 cylinder engine with fuel injection is probably the smoothest motorcycle on the road. The Compellor has a basic single cylinder carbureted (I believe) engine with no counter balancing to reduce vibration. Larger single cylinder engines will vibrate more than smaller ones because of the added weight of the larger reciprocating parts. Single cylinder engines are inherently vibration prone with no natural balancing like in multiple cylinder engines.
The only way to reduce vibration would be through improved motor mounts. Maybe someone else has some experience in this?

Marcey, When it is idleing are the mirrors vibrating a lot? If so you may be able to adjust the Fuel Ratio Screw and Idle to where it idles the smoothest. Alleyoop

The Compeller has a stright axle and does not ride as smooth as the Magnum. You are right about the seats they are not the best, I may re-do mine as on long trips ya really feel it...

I hadn't particularly noticed a lot of mirror vibration....but how do you get to that screw? I'll try anything to get rid of the vibration!! Yeah, it was only after I ordered the Compeller that the Magnum came out with the independent suspension upgrade! Live and learn the HARD way! I'm thinking of taking the seat off completely and re-doing it somehow. I need to almost create a suspended seat to where it doesn't touch the actual frame....not quite like a hammock...but like that, in a way! MarciaG

Hi MarciaG. Adjusting the idle mixture will not improve engine vibes while driving down the road. It works at very low rpms only. Independent rear suspension may improve the ride quality, but it will not change the engine vibes. A seat suspension system might be the answer. I believe tractor trailer drivers use an air suspension under their seats.

Your welcome, MarciaG. Have you tried a search on Ebay for motorcycle air seats? There's a large selection which might also work for you.
