? Sad death that needn't have happened. I saw an old guy with no shirt riding a brand new Sportster today. I'd rather melt wearing a jacket than lose my skin on asphalt in an accident.

Horrible tragedy, my thoughts go out to the guy's friends and family. How many times does this have to happen before people don't get on two wheels without a hat? Horrible.....just horrible. Rich

You have to wonder what people are thinking sometimes. I've never questioned my mortality and wear a helmet even for short test rides on the grass in my field. A helmet even saved my wife's life on a bicycle, my Mom too.

i think motorcycle helmet laws are stupid. darwinism works if we would stop protecting stupid people from killing themselves off and thus helping the gene pool...
that being said, i ALWAYS wear a helmet and having come off my scoot twice, im glad i own one. the only time ive gone without was to let the lady on the back stay safe...

I just commented on this over at Dumb Dawg. The problem is that Darwinism doesn't help when someone is reduced to a drooling mess and OUR insurance dollars have to pay for his care and therapy simply because he exercised some right not to wear a helmet. Would you want to pay the bills if an insurance company said, "Opp, no helmet, no coverage" for somebody in the family if they opened their head in an accident because they chose not to wear a helmet. Let's say, surgery and therapy-$100,000. If insurance companies did that the lawsuits would fly the first time someone turned their head into a crushed watermelon and needed lifetime nursing care.

He sure showed um. I once sat and listened for 20-30 min to a covey of harley riders in a coffee shop discussing all of reasons it was not safe to wear a helmet and how several of them actually knew riders who were killed from wearing one. No, I made no attempt to disagree, since they knew it all. It was rather amusing to see so many stupid's in one group! john
