So I have this Xingyue 260 Motor scooter that was running fine when I bought it, then a few days later it started sputtering and losing power around 3000 RPM or past a quarter throttle turn off the block. Was running perfectly fine, top speed 75 to 80, climbed canyon hills at around 45 or 50 fine with old spark plug. But after a few days of sputtering it died completely and now won't start at all... I'm mechanically inclined but way in over my head on this Chinese bike. I've checked on all the lines and pumps and I don't think it's a fuel issue, cleaned the carb. Did see a tiny puncture in the rubber diaphragm in the carb head, would that be the cause? replaced the spark plug, brand new battery, just had the thing re-wired so I doubt it was electrical or it wouldn't have worked as well as it did off the get-go. I'm new to the scooter universe so any help would be appreciated. Thx, Chris.

well the hole in the diapham would make it sputter the new wireing would be what i would look at get a ohm meter start traceing power check the fuses go from there

Yes, the Rubber Diaghrgam if it is torn or has tiny holes will not rasie your needle. But here is a quick fix for you while you look for a new one:
The rubber diaphrgam is made out of nitrile rubber. Get a little tube of GORILLA GLUE, being a polyurethane it reacts with the bonded surfaces, will hold even when covered with gasoline or carb cleaner. It remains somewhat flexible, it is a littler stiffer than your diaphragm which is just a nitrile rubber coated cloth but apply it thinly over tears and cracks and holes and it will hold. Lefty

as for the electrical you need to check all hook up as im still doing on mine i just got it and it has 300clicks on it runs great then dies sometimes my cdi wirers are not tight enough till yesterday that is now they are runs great check there first

Okay, another quick question. In the induction of the carburetor, there is a hole that the needle from the head slides into. When I was taking it apart, a little metal piece fell out of the reservoir, I realized that it was a stop of some kind, but it has a large end, and then it steps down to a smaller end, and it has a hollow center for the needle to fit through. I figure the piece came in from the bottom, but do you know if it is supposed to be put in with the skinny end up (toward the induction camber), or fat end up?
